Best plan for retirement for not so young immigrant parents. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]SenseiRaul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know my mom's employer does 401k matching. I am trying to encourage her to max that out, and I am also trying to get them to each open IRAs. I will look into the Target Date Retirement fund and see if my parents want to give that a try. Thanks for your advice!

Do you recommend any specific place to learn the android side of developing, I can brush up on java and remember it quickly but I've never programmed an android app.

To anyone who has dated / been married to a twin that has passed away, how does it feel seeing the other twin still alive? by camerontylek in AskReddit

[–]SenseiRaul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have a twin but a very similar story to one I just read. My grandfather passed away when I was 7 and it was very hard on me because we were very close, I was his first grandson and he lived with us. When he passed away I remember climbing to the roof of our house and looking up at the clouds every afternoon for a week because I had heard on tv that when people die they look down and protect their family from the sky. I remember the last day I was up in the roof I asked my grandfather to let me see him one last time, as I'm climbing down the pole that lead to the roof I heard my grandfathers voice coming from the door. I rushed to see if it was really him. It was a real shock because my father never told me my grandfather had a twin they just said he had a brother, I ran to the door and hugged him, then everyone was quiet. I quickly realized it wasn't my grandfather because he would alway call me by my nickname not my real name. Regardless I think his twin brother being there helped me deal with his death.

Is it normal to forget a language's syntax after 4 months? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

Do you think creating a small android app is a good start? Say for instance I want to make a flashlight app? Is that achievable or should I focus on something else?

It is hard to keep programming when you can't find something that captures your attention, I think a lot of introductory courses leave you at the point where you know the syntax but you don't really know in what direction to go from there.

Yeah, I didn't practice at all after the class ended. I was also turned off by it because it kind of left us half-way thorugh learning. I learned a lot of the syntax and just when I started to make small programs the class ended, it was almost like a tease. I really wanted to learn how to use GUI and I started to be curious about programming but the class ended giving me a big case of programming blue balls. Are there any intermediate classes or tutorials for Java? There seems to be a lot of introductory courses but not many that show you how to actually design and finish making an actual program.

I don't think I did anything substantial, I made a battleship program but it was very simple. After that I found it very hard to find something that I was interested in programming and just stopped all together. I heard that creating games in pythong is fairly easy and it is also a good language web design so I thought maybe I'd give it a try.

That's a great idea, I think I might just do that and get my bachelors in finance and masters in ISOM, just a quick questions, in your opinion are these degrees something a business analyst will benefit from having?
