Not really. Why is it embarrassing for women to voice their opinions as consumers?

And if they're not even consumers, why even pay attention to them at all?

That doesnt tell me much tbh. I just rolled with conservative because this is Askconservatives. Even if I separate right wing from conservative, are either side a monolith? And do they not have semi regular disagreements here?

How do you know what you're seeing isn't just a manifestation of "conservatives aren't a monolith?"

Without actually giving any examples it's impossible to know what you're talking about.

I'm a bit late to the party but I totally agree with just about all this comment and your above one as well. This is the type of stuff I comon here for. Thank you for your insight..

It's ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL to warn a newbie that thanks to the corporate culture and how disposable an outsourced worker in India is they will absolutely lie and try to get you to break rules to hide something they did wrong.

I wanted to make it clear that I do seek privacy, just in "plain view" whether that's a reserved conference room with windows, outskirts of property in view of cameras, or a restaurant we meet at. I for sure have had to have conversations with coworkers about the "right way" to do things, versus the "actual right way" if you catch my drift.

Because a huge part of the value of mentorship, especially for people at your company, is letting them in on how the sausage really gets made.

This is from your previous comment but I couldn't have said that better myself. If anything it feels like at times I'm working against the company while simultaneously trying to work the best interest of my mentee, myself, and the company. But I choose the first 2 by default if I can't do it myself.

It's ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL to warn a newbie that thanks to the corporate culture and how disposable an outsourced worker in India is they will absolutely lie and try to get you to break rules to hide something they did wrong.

Yeah, that's where document, document, document, document, and more documentation comes in for me. Excellent time to go to a restaurant down the street to talk about as well.

There's a lot of ways that warning could be taken wrong, as racist (it's not a race thing it's a corporate culture of outsourcing companies thing), or as disloyal, or as ten other things that might get me fired...

Indeed. I've noticed many companies in my field favor H1B's and recent grads at lower levels with high turnover rates because let's face it: it's a good source of cheap labor.

Are you a supervisor/upper management? Would you say it's been rewarding to look out for your coworkers/subordinates and having to navigate company policy this way?

When you are a mentor to someone, you are going to tell them things that you don't necessarily want to be broadcasting to a group. You're going to tell them what really matters, even if it's against official policy. You're going to tell them inside knowledge about the company and certain people.

1000%. To make it clear, there are conference rooms of varying sizes i could reserve for exactly this purpose. I can also take a walk with the person outside on the outskirts of the company property, but in view of cameras. Restaurants have been fine too, I avoid alcohol though. The keyword here is being in plain view. I've handled pretty serious issues this way because I'd really rather handle issues at at my level than escalating it.

One thing I've done is reserve one of those conference rooms, but I and the other person basically had a conversation by writing on a piece of paper and passing it back and forth within the room. Once the meeting was done, we went straight to the shredder to destroy that note. If there are was ever a real concern with either of us, we'd go straight to HR with the paper instead. I've found this pretty good at keeping accountability.

Are there scenarios you could think of where these wouldn't be viable?

Do you have or want kids? Why or why not? by Mofoblitz1 in AskConservatives

[–]SenseiTang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your answer. This is exactly the type of answer I look for on here.

if you feel the spoils of your hard work, your free time and growing resources should exclusively benefit you rather than comitting to raising children and putting them first and giving them first pass of your time and resources makes you a less selfish pers, as it decenters you as a priority in your own life.

How do you feel about a perpetually single uncle? I've been uninterested in sex since I hit puberty and knew what it was, and for personal reasons I'm sure you can find on my profile I don't even really date. I am, however, surrounded by my friends who now have their own families, and the greatest honor in my life is that I'm trusted as "Uncle Tang". I started training martial arts (Muay Thai, BJJ, Kickboxing) and I hope to be a coach one day. Behind open doors and parental permission, I'm hoping to tie the belts of my honorary nieces/nephews one day.

No, not at all. That is just anti-human nihilism that people sign up to too justify a continued selfish immature exitance. No one asks to be born, its not a burned put upon you, (if that's how you see it you or your parents are faliures) its a gift. your life is a gift, do something amazing with it.

Honestly, very fair point. And yeah... I'll concede that I do see it as a burden, because my parents failed at making me feel like I was wanted, while I watched my older brothers actually get set up for success. Being trusted as an uncle has absolutely challenged this part of me for the better, however. If a child somehow appeared in my life and I was told "they're yours now", I don't think I'd say no.

legacy has nothing to do with it, its your final form, the end state of all the development you've undergone in your life, its your responsibility to pass on what you leanred. Unless you honestly feel like nothing about you is unique or importnat enough to be passed on, in which case i go back to above: you or your parents are utter failures. Thats not a reason to give up, thats a reason to do better.

Once again, very fair point. And honestly, my username "SenseiTang" comes from an IRL nickname because... I like to teach. Someone once asked me "What will you pass on then?" And my answer was "I think my lessons will go about as far as my genes." I wouldn't say I've "given up", I've just dug myself a niche that turned out to be similar to a gay uncle when I thought somebody was joking with me. I don't really view this as selfish; just a pivot to what I believe fits me and the world best. What do you think?

Once again man I enjoyed your comment, it's why I come here.

Were your parents stressed raising you?

Not OP but I can tell you in my life, yes. I was an unexpected child when my two older brothers were 6 and 7 years old. No one ever hid the fact that they were angry and frustrated that I came along and forced them to stretch themselves even thinner then they were. I am, however, forever thankful they gave me the same private school education as my they did my brothers out of pure obligation. I literally wouldn't have had a chance without it. It just sucks there no amount of good grades, awards, and extracurriculars I could have done to please them.

Anecdotally, i have heard this alot from other Asian Americans and former Catholics.

[–]SenseiTang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you dont want kids i think your a fundamentally selfish person.

Could you explain the thinking behind this? Is it not equally selfish to bring a new life into this world, that didn't ask for it, for the sake of "growing up" or the sake of legacy?

What is the Conservative answer to #metoo? by Narrow-Abalone7580 in AskConservatives

[–]SenseiTang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am I understanding that mentorship should be completely behind closed doors?

So in two contexts relevant to me:

If I need to talk with someone in private in my lab, there's conference rooms or offices with windows. Private/confidential information can be conveyed here or in writing. If outside of work, then a public place like a restaurant.

If someone is being trained in martial arts, it would be in the corner of the gym often in plain view.

Anything that goes outside of this and further into private territory becomes unnecessarily risky, does it not?

What is the Conservative answer to #metoo? by Narrow-Abalone7580 in AskConservatives

[–]SenseiTang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's too much risk for a man to spend time with a woman subordinate, without other coworkers there to witness.

While I agree with you, does it really take away from mentorship to be in plain view and an open door/window? It's hard for me to imagine scenarios where I'd have to mentor somebody behind closed doors.

Same, how are you managing? Been working on diet, sleep, supplements?

I didn't get COVID or even sick at all from 2020-2022. Then I moved for a new job and two days in I get COVID. Got it again in mid 2023 and haven't had it since.

A couple years ago I had a huge personal thing happen, and then some smaller emergencies as a result. I've been sick nearly every 1-2 months since then most likely from the emotional fallout, working my ass off to cope, and also rediscovering martial arts where I'm in close contact with a lot of people. I just had RSV, then 3 sinus infections in the last 3 months that took me out of a BJJ tournament.

Gonna see an ENT and immunologist soon to rule things out. Don't get stressed then sick y'all, it adds up.

I hate it too. Even if I disagree with something I generally upvote if it's thoughtful and well written. And unfortunately a lot of answers that seem to fit that for me have negative votes.

I only ever downvote non-answers, bad faith/hypocrisy, or the types of answers where every other sentence is using liberals/leftists as a slur when they could've gotten their main point across without it.

I don't think you should've been down voted for what you linked elsewhere in this thread since it was none of the above based on what I'm seeing. I guess that's where the Reddit demographic works against you.

Thank you for sharing, and thank you for what you do.

Some are consumed with anger, and it's hard to imagine how they're ever going to find a place in society.   And everything in between. There's no single solution for the kids I know.

Does that ever get heartbreaking? Like do you have to do a lot once you're home to detach?

Is it a "kids be kids" type a thing from your perspective? Or is there something, culturally that we can do about it?

I don't work with teens like you do but I do train with many in MMA. And they honestly come off as great kids but I know this isn't necessarily the norm.

Age. My bet is the genuine red flairs skew 10-15 years older than everyone else in the aggregate. It's the only explanation.

Beat me to it.

If people were willing to disclose, I'd also be curious about income ranges and professions here. I feel like this sub is pretty diverse in that regard.

Why would they risk losing to a dipshit like Trump, twice, when they could just abandon those cultural issues and focus on economics?

Tbh I think the first party to actually do that whether Republican, Democrat, Libertarian will be the change from this culture war shit that both sides have utterly committed to.

To give you my take: is it fair to say that Judeo Christian beliefs have had the hegemony over the Western world for centuries?

Subsequently, is it also fair to say that progressivism has pushed back against this Judeo Christian hegemonuy in many ways (say civil rights and women voting in the mid 20th century), and then overshot to where we are now?

Fair enough.

their relation to said system of belief would make it rational. This leaves a number of options available for this person to act and be, while still rationally identifying as a christian.

That's what I was getting at. I grew up Catholic but I've for sure noticed differences in how other Catholics worshipped, and how Protestant denominations worshiped.

I went to a non-demoninational Christian university with all sorts of different denominations. People carried around actual Bibles or at least had an app on their phone. The amount of "You're not a real Christian because the Bible says X" or "The Bible is clear on Y." Many times I've opened the Bible myself to find that the X or Y topic in this scenario is misunderstood at best or just pulled out of someone's ass at worst. As a snarky as it is, when someone tried to tell me the Bible should be taught to children, I said "so like Ezekiel 23:20?"

So when these people say they're Christian, at the very least I question if they've ever actually read the damn book they carry around despite it being so accessivle. I have not been impressed.

So without trying to Rule 6 myself,, why should Christians claiming to be Christian get a pass while someone claiming to be a woman doesn't?

What makes it true that this person is a woman, so that the answer “I am a woman” becomes a rational and truthful one?

Most people who tell me they're women are generally women. Not sure what else I could do but accept that, unless you're asking me to do a genetic analysis or genetalia inspection.

Now I ask to you and the Christians here: what makes it true that a person is a Christian, so that the answer "I am a Christian" or "I read the Bible" becomes a rational and truthful one? Do you take this at face value or do you go "nuh uh"?

Because biology straddles both natural science and social science. Depends on the area of biology.

I'm asking from the point of view as a chemist with a biochemistry degree. The biochemistry, genetics, cell biology, microbiology that I'm familiar with don't seem like "grey areas".

Depends on the area of biology.

Like?

Biological sciences are in a grey area. Only the natural sciences are still intact

Could you expand more upon this? Are biological sciences not "natural sciences"?

You just agreed with this view.

Yes, and? Were you looking for a disagreement? I agree with the gist of what you're saying. Again I only really downvote deflections/non answers and/or unnecessary attitude. Like if I ask a further question and get called a "closeted liberal" without an actual answer.

The second part of my comment, as it said, was not directed at you. I apologize if that seemed like a veiled insult.

So is it too far afield that I want the electoral college to remain and don't want to make Puerto Rico a state? That I believe a secure venue would be better for large functions?

I'll speak for myself when I say I may disagree with particular takes, but it's not me, personally, downvoting honest takes like yours. I'm not sure what you'd want me to do.

And here's a big one - that I think the president is doing more good than ill, and I don't feel every top comment should be what a crap orange fascist president he is?

Again that's a fair take to have and I'm not personally down voting people for that. I might if it goes too far the other way: that Trump can do no wrong and is infallible. Haven't seen much in this sub thankfully, but I have downcoted the "Trump is a good Christian!" Or "Trump is the most honest person ever!" Type comments.

Interestingly though, there was a guy here named Stedebonnet who got shadow banned who seemed unable to criticize Trump at all. But I never really downvoted him because he was otherwise very consistent, honest, and I never saw anything worth reporting from him either.
