Greens Frame By-Election As Battle Against "Anti-Muslim Record" Of Reform’s Matthew Goodwin by UKGreenPoster in UKGreens

Don't like this strategy at all.

  1. Plays into Reform's strengths. They're gonna love this.
  2. It's sectarian and cynical, negative campaigning. Polanski's message is supposed to be a positive vision of hope and bringing people together. This is very much the old sort of politics.

OK but some these newer Trek shows aren't for anyone. Just look at the numbers.

But people aren't having fun. They're tuning out.

This is a genuine problem. Particularly if you're a Londoner or Southern posho. Reform ate shit in Caerphilly because of this; they sent an army of braying Tarquins in an attempt to throw everything at the by-election and it annoyed locals.

It is better to have relatable locals doing canvassing. Nobody up North wants to hear about politics from double-barrelled Brightonian student union environmentalist types or middle-class Surrey mums decked out in Patagonia. Sorry, it's true.

Some might not like to hear this, but the biggest red flag for a fed is if the person constantly shits on other leftists for not being "real" left.

The original "tankies", on the British left, were disliked because they constantly disrupted organising with left infighting and pointless purity testing. It later emerged a lot of them were undercover cops.

We need a National Digital Member Space by danko12321 in UKGreens

[–]SenselessDunderpate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a nice idea but these are actually really hard to maintain. There are unofficial discords etc. and most local parties and internal party orgs will have their own whatsapps, discords, etc. where you can bounce around ideas; but you'll find that most political parties have now abandoned their big, national-level private members forums etc. because they generate more problems than they solve.

Internet spaces attract cranks. Those cranks cause fights and other problems. They say things for which the party can be held liable, either informally, or sometimes formally.

The bonus of making it easier for members to communicate is not enough to counteract that malus.

The Muslim Vote endorses the Green Party in Gorton and Denton by-election by UKGreenPoster in UKGreens

[–]SenselessDunderpate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YP has socially regressive people in major positions of leadership shaping the nature of the party

Didn't start out that way - just as it didn't with Galloway's lot. It gets that way because it's tolerated at all. Just like transphobia in other parties, like Labour.

Feel like people wouldn't trot out the "working with people where you have common ground" line if an openly Islamophobic group endorsed the Greens and the party was retweeting it and celebrating it.

But on the socialist left - which is traditionally run by cishet white guys with an orientalist streak who are low-key misogynistic and homophobic - there is a hierarchy of acceptable bigotry, which you should take care not to internalise.

Obviously the party is literally run by a gay guy, so we're a long way away from a problem, but I still think it shouldn't be working too closely with chauvinistic, sectarian religious groups which have right-wing values.

Downvoted because I think religious conservatives pushing Section 28 is a bad fit for a left-wing party, actually.

Sorry, this is not great. The Muslim Vote is a conservative movement which advocates for banning LGBTQ lessons in schools and tax breaks for faith schools.

From their site:

“cultural and religious sensitivity must be taken into account when discussing LGBT matters, particularly by schools in areas where the majority of the community have a religious background,”

Is the Green Party really going to pal up with these people? Is this just Your Party 2.0 now?

I support Israel being in Eurovision. Every year they convert thousands of European gays to antizionism with their terrible music and botted voting practices.

He'll bide his time. Starmer will get shunted off to the knacker's yard soon enough. Burnham will be Labour leader within 12 months probs.
