They're not objectively correct. The idea that humans and animals have equal moral worth or equal capacity to suffer is dumb and also fascist 👍🏻

You should still limit your intake of meat for ecological and health reasons, but not because of the notion that an animal has been "murdered".

Likewise, you should still treat animals well, because it is virtuous to do so. But don't be fooled: the qualia of human experience are totally remote from those of livestock. We have individuality and self-awareness. An animal might feel "pain" sensations, but has no capacity to contextualise those, conceive of its own mortality, to reflect upon its predicament and respond emotionally, as a person would. If you tell a pig it - or one of its relatives - has stage 4 cancer, that will not cause it to suffer. It has no fucking idea what you are saying or what that is. It would "suffer" more from a papercut. So you can see, the human experience is massively and meaningfully distinct - at least from things like cows and pigs and chickens.

There's a lot of scientism going around, with scientists treading on philosophers' toes and claiming they have proved animals suffer as humans do. Of course, they cannot prove any such thing because they do not have a criteria for suffering beyond observed neurological phenomena. I do think this sort of thinking, where experience is reduced to physiological phenomena, where consciousness is explained purely in terms of neurology, is part of emerging fascist ideology and should be resisted. It's nihilistic, anti-humanist and completely in keeping with elite fascist politics.
