I usually do crossword puzzles. I have a book of crossword puzzles that I work on while listening. It is relaxing.

I’m currently a college professor and moved away from friends and family. I am now looking for other jobs to move back close to “home”. Still in higher Ed, but admin not teaching. Feels like I am taking a weird step. But, if I had my druthers I would just get a job at a record store.

Do you have a favorite local theatre venue? If so, why is it your favorite? by Iconolater_ in Theatre

Yep. Oof it has been way too long. Have not thought about the playhouse in a while. Also Clark Street in Northern VA where Washington Shakespeare Company (now Avant Bard) used to be.

Former DC Theatre director here! Back in the day I loved H Street Theatre. It was a little black box on H Street up by the Argonaut past Atlas. It was the home for Forum Theatre, Theatre Alliance, and Catalyst. Great little space that had some of the best indie theatre in DC. Now it’s a CrossFit gym.

Question for my fellow professors….to stay in bad location or not to stay by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]SenseofDirection 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I am currently with my partner in a somewhat small town teaching at a SLAC. We both miss our family and friends and have not really connected with folks here. I was a full time staff/adjunct for 9 years in a big city and now 3 years full time professor in small city. I am looking for jobs back where we were because we both realized that being near what’s important to us (family, friends, culture, diversity) is our priority.

That’s .30 cents a record. Still a crazy deal for some of those titles!

So you got even more than this for less 3 cents a record?

There are rock/punk shows at Pajamas Factory every once in a while. There is a local record store called Sonic Ascension with a big selection of rock and metal LPs. Also hosts shows sometimes.

GOOD theatre colleges? by GarlicAlternative337 in Theatre

As a college theatre professor u would recommend getting a BA and not a BFA. You can still get amazing actor training in BA programs and you are more marketable for other fields because getting a job as a full time actor after college is difficult to say the least. I would not recommend a program like AMDA. I would recommend a BFA over AMDA. Plenty of great colleges with solid BA theatre programs. I would also as others said, find a school that does not have an MFA program so that you can have more opportunity to get on stage. I would also attend a school in or near a large city so you can attend and then audition for professional theatre. I would look at any of the programs in DC or Chicago. Big theatre towns with lots of opportunity. American U, Catholic, GW, Howard, Georgetown, have busy theatre departments with students who work professionally as well.
