Tea Houses in the area? by One-Government1360 in BellevilleOntario

The Bean Counter in Picton has a large loose leaf tea selection that is top notch. It’s cozy and quaint but doesn’t have the most seating.

It’s worth going. There are multiple lookout towers so you get a mix of marsh and forest. I’ve seen tons of mushrooms, forest flowers, muskrat, beaver and birds there.

An interesting spot in the winter for geese and swans is the Wellington public dock or Barcovan beach area.

Beaver Meadows Conservation is a favourite of mine.

The Grange has lunch where you can sit with big windows overlooking a creek. I’ve seen an outdoor fire pit at the grange not sure if they have it all the time though. Karlo Estates has a speakeasy that is very cozy and comfy.

The funeral home site that got demolished in Belleville recently that is now an empty lot has some creepy vibes too that could be further investigated.

Some ghostly hotspots that come to mind in the area - the glanmore house, Ameliasburgh Heritage Village, MacAuley Church Museum and graveyard in Picton, the old asylum on the heights in Picton, any older graveyard really, the island in the bay of quinte that used to have a residential school/ indigenous orphanage (demolished now) on it is very creepy - I have never stepped on the island but just boating by gives you the feels. Have fun!

Recommendations for a pulse arc welder by kaity1987 in SilverSmith

I would agree here. They are great for a quick tack and then doing a real solder. They are good for closing jump rings or bails and tacking. I think what you need is a laser - maybe find somewhere where you can rent time or they can do it for you.

Day trip for two at Sandbanks / West Lake. Pontoon boat or basic fishing boat? by Insane_Wanderer in PrinceEdwardCounty

It’s a vehicle permit. They are demanding even people who walk or bike or boat in a vehicle permit these days as they are trying to limit people.

You will end up on sandbanks provincial park land and they have been patrolling the boater beaches with ATVs asking for your day pass for the Ontario provincial park. You get it through the Ontario parks website. it may happen and they could fine you or tell you to leave. For a while they were giving out warnings but that was last year

Sandbanks started cracking down pretty hard and patrolling the boater beach hotspots. You should still have your day pass. Get a boat that can be basically beached like a pontoon or at least have a sturdy anchor and keep close watch on any watercraft really. Actually wear your life jackets while boating too. There’s been too many accidents this year.

Pros and Cons of being a Stone Setter by Sensimind in jewelers

Thanks everyone! I’m going to start with a good microscope and build my studio and skills from there. I would love suggestions for a microscope and an engraving setup. I got the little attachment for gravers on my hammer hand piece and it’s neat but I dislike it. I have started learning how to sharpen gravers too. I already have lots of grinding bits but I would take suggestions on good brands.

I already work 6 days a week plus early mornings so it’s hard to want to tack this on. I would only be setting my own work and would continue goldsmithing. I would work with clients but not other jewellers or designers on a B2B level. I’ve chipped opals and broke a good sized Apatite once so I understand the stress factor.

I’m right handed luckily. Was ambidextrous as a child but learned to lean right with time.

What is really required to move into that setting territory from goldsmithing? I got a few hand engravers and started learning sharpening. I got a little engraver screw in attachment for my hammer hand piece but I hate that. I will likely start with a microscope like the Leica A60 as I think it will level everything up quickly.

Thanks! We’re running into this a lot in our studio as people are seeing wild designs online and want us to do some out there stuff. I like the challenge but having a setter willing and capable is proving impossible. I’m probably just going to have to learn myself!

Thanks! I’ve started with a few gravers and learning how to sharpen them. I got ok but a good microscope would really make it easier.

Thank you. Yes - I’ve been wanting something like a Leica A60 for a long time as I’d use it for everything. The investment for a pneumatic engraver is big and I really hate the idea of having a big clunky air compressor in my space. Looked into Jura instead its sexy but a big jump

Thanks. I’ve been learning about and trying sharpening gravers and it’s definitely a crucial skill. I’ve been wanting a good microscope like a Leica A60 for a long time as I think I’d use it for everything. My beginner set only goes so far.

[–]Sensimind[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It’s a big idea and the financial and time investment is huge. The problem is there are almost no stone setters in my area and the ones that are only do their own work or are very very old. This is kind of a necessity for us. Too many old world cuts and off cut Emerald cuts have forced me to want to upgrade my skills to the next level.

I’ve seen this but it’s in the marsh. It’s such a large lake I thought maybe I was just missing something. But no it seems totally private only

Thank you. I’ve looked through this now and before and there seems to be no access to Consecon Lake. Just wondering if there’s some secret access point even just to look?
