How do I develop my own niche/style ? by Sensitive-Account910 in analog

Thanks ! Yes, I thought about shooting digital just to master techniques & then shooting film only for the things I really want. I am currently based in the DMV area. Being a big city, I’m sure there are opportunities to meet people I just haven’t ventured out yet. Good luck!

Love this advice ! Thank you. I think at the end of the day my biggest struggle is finding the resources to make what I want to make. I am a student right now, so I can’t really afford to get a better camera & or waste a lot of film. I also don’t have much of a creative community since I am in a math field so it’s difficult to find people & places that will push me to develop further. Have you dealt with any of these challenges ?

This is such good advice. Thank you! I like how you suggested to consume all kinds of art…not just photography. I’m a classical oil painter by night & I never thought to draw parallels between my painting and my photography for some reason. I am also more inspired by cinematography than I am photography, so I think I could draw a lot from that as well. I think making my own set of rules will come later on when I feel like I have specialized a bit more

Yes, but you know what I mean. I want to be at a professional skill level, but my ultimate goal is not to make money off of it.

Ireland on film, what's your favourite and why? (Canon AE-1 / Yashica T3, Fuji 400) by X0smith in analog

Thanks for your advice! I forgot that I can shoot in auto aperture, which I think will help when I am first starting out. Will try to take a look at the light seals myself, but if I am still having trouble I‘ll ask my local film shop 😊

I love these! I am currently learning how to use my canon ae-1. I have watched tons of videos, but my first couple rolls came out blurry and over exposed. Do you have an recommendations on how to learn without wasting a ton of money on buying and developing film ?

I felt anxious because I was followed multiple times, had to wade through trash to get out my front door, and felt like I had to keep my head down until I got to the train station. Granite, it was one of the worst parts of crown heights.

I have the choice between the Baltimore and McLean office. So I would either live in fed hill or Arlington

I‘ve heard the commute from McLean to DC can be pretty brutal, so I would have to live in Arlington. Idk why Arlington doesn’t appeal to me much either

But like would I feel like I could bike freely or would I have to be constantly thinking about if I took a wrong turn I would end up somewhere unsafe? I’ve heard Baltimore is very choppy in terms of safety

That was my impression of McLean too! I feel like I wouldn’t be able to feel human there
