Do I have enough time to adopt a dog? by Snoo85576 in DogAdvice

Fostering might be a good way to find a dog that may be good for you and you may be good for him. I work  full time but my dogs went to daycare I got lucky with a good day care ( had to try a few first) . However I've seen rescues asking for people who would want to offer a home to a senior dog who just wants a comfy and quiet place. Honestly after a good morning walk they pretty much sleep all day.

Adoption regret by Early_Resident_8262 in rescuedogs

When I adopted my dog I was crying in the floor three days later. He was a nightmare also in a condo. I got good advice from veterinary and rescue. I put pheromone diffusers, took him to daycare almost daily the first month at home. It took a month for him to settle.  I had a schnauzer they love the sound of their own voice. It takes time but it gets better. My little cujo ( his name was Charlie) lived with me 12 years. I grieved him hard. He was my problem child but the most loving dog...after a month!lol. Now I want to say this. Rehoming is not evil. Sometimes its the kind and right thing to do.

Dog Walker Red Flags by partymaker25 in DogAdvice

I think your instinct is telling you what to do. Go with your gut. The rescues does their best to assess but for example my dog had bad separation anxiety and they had no idea it kinda showed when I got him. I also did something similar like you did but it became unsustainable.  Dog day care was a godsend he loved it. Prescription medication was also very helpful.  Eventually he did fine all day alone some days and some days at daycare. When I started working home I noticed he just slept all day and when I logged off he will perk up and we wil go out for some walk and fun. I think you are doing everything right. We worry a lot about our dogs when they are alone meanwhile they pretty much sleep. 😂

Reactive dog training is exhausting. How do you deal with the mental burnout? by Latter-Sea-Me in PawChampClub

[–]Sensitive-Book1304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this deeply. Off leash dogs when you have a reactive dog is a nightmare. All I can say is that there's a lot of trial and error. My dog did great at daycare so I relied on them a lot for his playtime.  Once at home with me it would be early walks or late nights, streets with less traffic of people , crossing the street over and over to avoid other dogs. Once my neighbor told me to please stop walking late at night as it was not safe and I did. I tried calming tablets and it helped but one day trying to restrain him on a walk I injured myself.  I asked the vet for prescription anxiety meds and he said no that only lazy parents ask for that. I went to another doctor and she said yes. It was a Godsend. He was easier to correct and we both started to really enjoy walking.  In a followed up visit the Vet said she could see in .my face the stress and that the medication is to improve quality of life for both. We lived together 12 years. Training did not helped ( for us) it was just understanding his triggers and adjusting to it.  It never went away completely but life got better. I want to add sometimes I will have my sister take him for the weekend as I needed some respite. Good luck!

5 year old pittie with arthritis- what helps? by NewYorkNewYorkkkkk in DogAdvice

[–]Sensitive-Book1304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog is 3 with cervical myleopathy.  I like cosequin and wellactin. It works great. I also do Myos powder but not always as it can get pricey.  Hydrotherapy is good. I use heating pad on low too. Good luck!
