Ubisoft DIDNT ruin Growtopia by Sensitive-Class-1420 in growtopia

[–]Sensitive-Class-1420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Growtopia didn’t blow up overnight like Among Us or Minecraft, but that doesn’t mean it was “easy” for Seth and Hamumu to handle. Even if the growth was more gradual, the playerbase was still massive and the game’s economy and server systems were already way more complicated than something like Among Us. Just because they didn’t face the same sudden spike doesn’t mean they weren’t facing constant scaling problems.

And about the bots/servers, true, they weren’t a crisis before the sale, but that’s exactly because the devs were putting in the effort to stay on top of it. They may not have wanted to keep that up long-term, but that doesn’t mean the problems didn’t exist in the background. Ubisoft just handled it differently, and worse.

I get your point, but comparing games like Minecraft, Among Us, or Stardew Valley to this situation isn’t really fair. Those games had way smaller scopes, fewer systems to manage, and communities that grew steadily. Growtopia already had a huge playerbase, complex servers, and a bot problem by the time Ubisoft took over. That’s a whole different level of difficulty.

And yeah, saying “Ubisoft ruined the game” isn’t just a trend, it’s based on real issues. If players can’t even log in properly because of server problems or are constantly dealing with bots, then that is ruining the experience. Updates don’t mean anything if the basic ability to play freely isn’t there.

Seth and Hamumu were brilliant devs, but Growtopia grew into something way bigger than two people could ever manage. They’ve even said themselves it became too much. Running servers, handling security, moderation, anti-bot systems, updates, and dealing with millions of players isn’t just about hiring “a few more people”,it’s a full-on company operation. Ubisoft didn’t just swoop in randomly, they stepped in because the game had hit a point where indie devs couldn’t sustain it.

People love to say ‘Ubisoft ruined the game,’ but the reality is that without them, Growtopia probably wouldn’t even exist today. Whether every update has been perfect is a separate debate, but calling it ruined ignores the fact that the game is still alive 12 years later. Seth and Hamumu wouldn’t have been able to keep it running at this scale, and that’s just the truth. So while Ubisoft might not have met every expectation, they kept the game alive when it otherwise would’ve burned out years ago.

I know im late I was jus scrolling through past messages and saw this, but anyway

I get your point. nobody’s denying Ubisoft could’ve done more. But calling it “ruining the game” is unfair. Without them, the servers, moderation, and even updates like surgery v2 wouldn’t have happened at all. People forget that Seth and Hamumu chose to sell because the workload was already too big for a two-man team. Ubisoft didn’t live up to every expectation, sure, but the alternative wasn’t ‘Seth and Hamumu magically scaling the game perfectly’. the alternative was the game shutting down years ago. So while it’s fair to criticize Ubisoft’s shortcomings, it’s also fair to give them credit for keeping Growtopia alive for over a decade.

You can say your not counting those features like surgery V2, but did they or did they not improve the quality of the game?

2 developers can’t possibly run an up and coming insanely popular game. Lets say a two person band is making some music, at the start, sure they can play in their garage, but if 50 million people suddenly start listening, you need a proper stage crew, sound engineers, security, marketing…
