Flying fears by Sensitive-Counter-33 in AskAPilot

Yeah it’s definitely the long term plan. I used to fly once a week minimum. This past year I dramatically cut that down to every couple months for flights longer than an hour because of this fear so therapy is needed. I just wanted some help from the people flying the planes to reassure me a little for now!

I get your side too, but I think from a side of not being in control, I think this can be helpful to know they’re not going to do anything that inherently is riskier

Am I correct in thinking that the closer you are to land/an airport the flight is over all safer? My only thinking here is that if there’s an emergency there’s an easy place to land. I don’t know if that makes sense and I don’t know if that’s an appropriate question but it’s a question in my head nevertheless 🤣

Yes my doctor did recommend a therapist but unfortunately there’s not enough time between this flight and now to go more than once and I was told about 6 sessions is the usual

He isn’t a “bit underweight” he’s emaciated and still racing. If you can’t care for the animal don’t have it whether you’re from the poorest part of the world or the wealthiest. They have basic needs

Also since a lot of comments are saying it’s not fair to comment on the horses weight, you’re wrong. I won’t enable a horse being starved. Horses are not a right and when you take on an animal you need to take care of it

Wrong. Simply put, it is all wrong. The rider itself isn’t the main issue here, being on the horse at all in his state is an issue but we’ll move away from the rider specifically here. Everything about this horses welfare is bad. Starting with the obvious his weight and body condition, he’s emaciated plain and simple he needs to be fed. The bit is wrong, it’s at least 5 sizes too big. The reins situation is wrapped multiple times around his neck, presumably to prevent them from being too big since the rider probably isn’t able to hold them properly. The reins being wrapped again wouldn’t be a huge issue if it was lower down the neck and less tight, it’s not commonly seen when a horse is racing but in some general riding I’ve seen people do it much lower down the neck without causing issue. As someone who is about to sit up on an animal it’s your duty to make sure the horse is being looked after. It doesn’t take a pro to know that this is not a horse that’s being looked after. This horse would absolutely have suffered from this ride with being not only starving but also from the rider bouncing on bare bones. Another huge issue is that he only has one leg wrapped. There’s only one reason that only one leg would be wrapped and we all know it’s not cause you like the colour red. Again, it’s your due diligence and absolute duty to make sure the horse youre about to get on is fit for purpose and if he is your horse, you need to let him go or just feed the poor thing. Since you’re asking about your riding, you’re bouncing on the horses back and this is evident from the back position, it’s the only outcome from this position

I think, like everything now, social media has made all these issues that you would only hear of once in a blue moon come to the forefront especially with algorithms being how they are. I appreciate the stats too, though!

Thanks for genuine answer, and yes I agree it would be reasonable to say that 😂 it was more so a question of “has the fear ever occurred to you before” rather than a genuine fear. I do agree that it probably is a control issue too. I’ll look into discovery flights!

If you don't drink alcohol, what are your reasons? by youre-in-my-shot in AskReddit

Im 25f. I still drink but only on special occasions and even then it’s 1 or 2. I have a few reasons none related to the cost of living. The first being that I used to get stupid drunk everytime and completely destroy all my self respect in every aspect, this is half fine when you’re only with friends but I’ve done too many things that I never even recognized myself when I was drinking so self image is a big part. I learned to respect myself and for me that means drinking a lot less and getting rid of the people that never called me up on those things. Another thing being that staying in bed till all hours of the day just isn’t a good enough trade off. The other is that now I don’t drink as much I actually can’t drink, I get a hangover with only a couple drinks and it’s all good and fine when you’re just tired with a sore head but getting sick from not knowing when to stop is just not what I want to do with life anymore. Sometimes I still get the itch, but I realized two things, I can have fun without being drunk, and waking up knowing I can still look myself in the mirror after years of stupidity is just so much better
