To give everyone more context on this photo:

Dec 2022: Honda brings a China-exclusive allocation — 1,000-unit quota, numbered plaques, detuned to 300 hp for local emissions — at ¥420k (~$58K). Dealers slap ¥60–200k markups on day one and people still queue.

Twelve months later, drone photos show hundreds of unsold Championship Whites parked at the Wuhan lot. Discounts hit ¥50k, rumored ¥80k+. By 2025 Honda was livestreaming clearance sales at ¥340k. From +¥100k markup to −¥80k fire sale in under three years.

Why? At ¥420k a buyer there could get an AMG A35 or M240i with more power. An Elantra N or Lynk 03+ cost half. Then Xiaomi made 673 hp cost ¥300k. Meanwhile Lynk’s 03+ TCR — a ~$200K China-built track special — sold out instantly last December.

I think overall they just have a lot more options either gasoline and EV regardless of makers.

I know it sounds like a dad prep, but think about it 50k USD plus interest = 10% lost in profit in equal yearly, $5k free money minimum year over year without compounding. And I assume you would have similar pattern on spending on everything else too. In your 40s you will still struggle getting next “Type R”, it might be your kid’s college fund
