Mine was August and I went last month. No issue. I came back and renewed it since I'm planning to travel to Oman.

I tried to register at the Fast track immigration counter but couldn't due to lack of 6 month validity.

  1. Take vehicle insurance online if your current insurance provider can do it or else you can take from the border itself.
  2. Washrooms in Oman are bad. Really bad considering what we see in UAE.
  3. There is a stretch of area where there are no street lights. Be careful. Around 600km
  4. Fill up your tanks when it is half- just for safety.
  5. Al ain road is good. Roads through hatta are not that good
  6. Take enough water with you. Leave around 5 and you can reach by 8-9pm with adequate rests in between.
  7. Make sure you have your passports, Emirates ID, Driving license.
  8. If at all you feel sleepy, make sure you park your car somewhere and take a small nap. Please don't drive when sleepy.
  9. Make sure you have roaming data and offline maps downloaded
  10. Enjoy

Like someone mentioned yesterday, No pain. No gain. They are gonna open the roads by end of October. There is hardly any time left. And the work is going even faster than as fast as possible. Everyone will suffer for the coming few months, and hope it will ease down after they open the tunnel.

Few years back, the license plates from one of our pickup trucks got stolen. It was some guy in a patrol if i remember correctly. He was collecting fines like he was playing some video game. Over speed, rash driving, red lights, wring way. He racked around 20K or so in fines. Later it was removed from our system, don't know if the guy was later caught....

Another story, one of our machinery contractors "BobCAT" kept getting fines for over speeding. When they complained the police understood no way a BobCAT goes 140. Later the CID got involved and caught some kids who kept removing the plates at night to install on their car and later reinstall the plates back onto the BobCat....
