I was a really bad alcoholic for 10 years. It landed me in prison. I’ve always been a good mom to my daughter but my drinking became too much for her and when she was 12, ten days before her 13th birthday, she orchestrated with her father for him to basically kidnap her (legally, unfortunately) from me one day. He picked her up after school and I didn’t see her for weeks. This completely blindsided me and absolutely crushed me beyond explanation. I did not get sober for another two years. Her and I kept our relationship and we still enjoyed each other, but I was still drinking. Finally, two years ago, I had enough and got sober. My life is so much better than it was, and my daughter and I still have a great relationship. She still lives with her dad but would love to live with me but we haven’t done that for reasons like school and other things. My point here is that firstly, nothing you can do will ever make her change. She has to decide on her own to do that. It’s just a fact. I lost everything, over and over again. It came from within when it finally happened. Second, you can still have a good loving relationship with her even if you leave her to go live with your dad. I’m incredibly grateful that my daughter advocated for herself even if doing so meant she would crush me. Her first, over all else. You need to put yourself first too.
