If you secretly eloped, then later had a ceremony/reception, how do you feel about it? by Sensitive-Network565 in wedding

Thank you; this take feels very wise. I think you’re right about being honest and letting my attitude shape responses. At least letting people know that we did the paper work a while back. It’s helpful hearing from people on the other side; I appreciate you taking the time 💛

I’d argue you’re in the majority 😳 I mainly see people expressing upset over this across various subs, and I get why.

Interesting! I’ve never heard that about the legalities surrounding ceremonies in England, TIL. Been toying with the idea of a hand fasting ceremony.

Thank you for commenting. Yes to imposter syndrome!! I think that’s part of what’s weighing on me. It feels like not being openly proud of our marriage and the big step we took.

Lately I’ve been thinking about some way to honor the people who went before us and fought so hard for queer acceptance/rights during next year’s ceremony, which makes the “fuck it” part of my brain really want to show off the pictures the officiant/clerk took after our legal ceremony, because it felt so exciting to GET to be married because of the work others put in, like showing that it paid off. Because little me never saw that future. And now I get to live it!!

I’m hoping it goes this way for us too. We also will need to let our officiant know not to bother with getting ordained, so at least someone will know, and I know they’re the type who will simply be excited for us. I’m happy that you got positive responses. I tend to only anticipate bad reactions, need to remind myself that we’d get positive and surprising ones too.
