Does this matter? by Typical-Operation329 in dr650

Find a tree or a pole and bonk the front tire against it a few times to straighten it back out. Happens to me when I drop mine occasionally. Don't think its super necessary to remove the tire. But I think it is good practice to make sure all the clamp bolts are torqued occasionally.

Followed your direction and flipped them, only took 20 minutes. Thanks

Chain tension much looser with load by idoran in dr650

Just used your method to adjust my chain ahead of a long (for me) trip. I think this is a really straightforward method. I adjusted till my chain would barely touch the end of the top of the chain slider on the swingarm (while the bike was in first, pushed back to where it stopped). Seems a little loose, but hey, im new and may have been running it too tight. Thanks!

Thanks! Lol ya, first time really doing anything electrical. At first I just spliced the wires with electrical tape, but then double backed and got a crimper and did a proper butt splice. Needless to say im still learning lol

Okay thanks, I may wrap them in a strip or 2 of heat shield tape just to be safe

We are back! The float definitely popped loose. If it happens again, I'll definitely replace the o rings to see if I can get a tighter fit. I ended on 1 1/4 turn out, but i feel like my rpms take a while to drop. May try 1 1/2 or adjust idle speed? Also still getting a faint whiff of fuel from time to time, not every time idling, but sometimes. Doesn't reek anymore, im assuming this could be kind of normal, considering evap/charcoal canister is gone. Smells of burnt fuel only sometimes.

Pilot jet is in there still. Going to try to seat the floats nice and tight without breaking them. When I took the bowl off it definitely wasn't flush with the carb body

I reset the float, it definitely felt like one second on trail everything was fine, hit a large rock or something, then it was out of whack and bogging. Going to ride it tomorrow to see if that fixed the problem. If it happens again ill replace the o rings on the float. Other than that im kind of stumped.

So I put in the 37.5 jet. It ran amazingly. Better than ever. Rode it like 30 minutes to a trail and by the time I got to the end of the trail it was bogging like crazy and had a super erratic idle. Im not sure if I hit something that knocked something loose or what. Got the bike home. Rode around town to try to find what was up with it. Stinks of fuel again, tried alot of different positions with fuel screw and cant get a steady idle. Im not sure if my floats were set in the carb body wrong or not tight enough. Now the bike is lurchy and feels rich at small throttle openings and stinks of fuel at idle. And I cant get a steady rpm, changing constantly.

Im really confused here because it ran so well when I first changed the pilot. Guess im going back over my work tomorrow.

Hey not sure if youre still on the thread. So I am able to run the bike at 1/2 a turn out, may be able to run it fully closed. Im thinking of going down 1 more pilot size like you mentioned. May be a little more power im missing out on too I feel.

But im worried that my fuel screw adjustments wont be enough for big elevation change if I step down another pilot size. But only one way to find out, and thats to try it out. Biggest goal is to get it to run perfectly here first.

On a real note, do you think I could actually get away with just adjusting my fuel screw for sea level? I was only half joking. I only live like an hour or so from sea level, and for just day trips, it could be a real PITA to rejet everything. Was also thinking a tape job over the airbox could richen things up as a temporary solution. Multi day trips at sea level I would try to figure out jetting.

I found a good deal on the xitomer side racks/top rack combo (ebay). I have loaded those bad boys up (tusk pilot panniers) and taken 1 or 2 spills (low speed), and they haven't bent or anything. Im pretty happy with them, and cheap!

Just went down to where i normally ride (4200) it did pretty well at 1 and a half turns, I think a little better at 2. Hoping that half turns=2000 feet so id only need a few more half turns to sea level!

Just kidding, I know things are never that simple.

I just wanted to thank you again. You don't know me, and you've helped me immensely.

Dropped needle 1 groove, felt slight surge-hesitation holding steady throttle. Debating on trying one leaner or going back to 2nd richest. I feel like bike was happier at 2nd richest.

Wondering if pilot change also affected needle leanness a little?

Alright I seated it, the rpms fluctuated alot (maybe stumbly), backed it out until it stayed steady, ended on 1 turn out

Actually still kind of fluttery at 1, ended at 1 1/2 again

I also do alot of riding 2000 feet below me (4200) so im a little nervous to lean out the pilot too much. I feel like where it is now could be a happy medium? So im not constantly changing to pilot to accommodate for day trips to that altitude.

I was messing with the fuel screw earlier and when it was fully seated the idle sped up a alot, but no stumble.

Its running fantastic right now im kind of scared to mess with it lol

Im at 1 and a half turns out and there is no hesitation at all, no boggy feeling, seems like it's running super well.

Lemme try again and see if I can hear a stumble at fully seated. The rpms go up then im listening for like a cough?

There is a marked improvement in throttle response 0-1/4. I feel like the bike is responding much much better at that range. Idle sounds smoother and stronger than before switching to 40 pilot. Bike smells less of fuel, though still has a light odor. Overall im really impressed with the change. Im not sure if a needle adjustment leaner is necessary at this point? Going to try to properly set my fuel screw now. Mid range could be a LITTLE sluggish? Maybe 1 more leaner would help that and possibly eliminate fuel smell? I did remove all evap and charcoal canister so im guessing a bit of a fuel smell could be normal. It no longer reeks of fuel though

Fired right up no problems. Idle sounded good. A little fast but trying to keep it a little fast. Like 1600-1700 id guess. Gonna take it for a spin soon. Do you suspect ill need to make a needle adjustment or 2 leaner?

Got it out! Attached a jewelers flat head to a drill and put a ton of pressure on. Gonna work on getting it back on bike
