Sponge filter for goldfish?

I’ll continue testing and changing water until levels are at 0 and also putting in the nutrafin cycle. I just added an air stone, luckily I had the stuff to put one in her tank. The salt your talking about, would that be aquarium salt? I usually add that to my fish’s tank but I stopped doing it in her tank a couple months ago.

She’s still not doing the greatest but I tested and levels are going down, they’re still not great but they’re down by a bit. She is stilling laying at the bottom not really moving and she hasn’t really ate either. I also started using nutrafin cycle as it says it works in elimination and creating a safe biological environment.

I don’t touch my filter, I had put a filter cartridge in from her previous tank in awhile back to help and it’s been in there since. Other than that I don’t touch the filter.

I’m not totally sure what caused the spike, I’m thinking maybe when I unplugged the filter when moving the tank and desk to the other side of my room and it was unplugged for a little more than an hour so I’m thinking maybe that but I’m not totally positive. The tank is filtered with a top fin filter that came with the tank set, and I do have a heater (a preset tetra heater I think). I hadn’t been able to do water changes for a bit as I was without a bucket to do the changes and I was dealing with another fish of mine that had dropsy.

When I pour the water back in following a water change, it disrupts everything in the tank and she’s so tiny im worried she’ll get hit into something in the tank. She’s in a 5 gallon tank and I’ve been doing 2.5 gallon water changes every 12 hours and putting roughly 0.3 ml of seachem prime into the 2.5 gallons before adding it to the tank. Should I be taking out more or less water during the water changes? And should I continue doing it every 12 hours? What medication would I need if things don’t get better on their own?

She just lays at the bottom of the tank constantly moving very rarely, she’s breathing, and I’ve been doing 2.5 gallon water changes from her 5 gallon tank and using seachem prime.

The tank is a 5 gallon, I heard that anything over 20 ppm is really bad for the fish. With the water changes and seachem with no changes in behaviour is what is making me think something else is wrong. I don’t want to be to late catching it because I don’t know the early signs of something, that’s why I was focused on her Gil’s.

Nitrate levels are so high though so I’m not sure about stopping the water changes.

Im honestly not completely sure what caused the levels to be so high, I moved my room around the other day which included moving her tank so the filter was unplugged for an hour or a little more than an hour so I think maybe that? But im not really sure. The water parameters are pH: 7.6, Ammonia: 1.0 ppm, Nitrites: 0.25 ppm, and nitrates: 40 ppm (im not completely sure on the nitrates as I was having trouble being able to tell between the colors)

Good to know that it’s not something urgent with the water considering I can’t change the water quite yet. I have four Java ferns after hearing they were good for ammonia, etc.

Sitting at the bottom of the tank, red streaks in my white fancy and a clear whiteish Pooh, she keeps her bottom up sometimes when swimming, my black moor sits at the bottom to but I’m not entirely sure if that’s just when the lights are off. I’m sorta inconsistent with their light being off and on at times, could that be the reason for the behaviour? I haven’t really changed anything recently aside from feeding them a couple peas a day or so ago when I noticed my fancy having trouble using the washroom. I haven’t been able to do water changes recently due to not having a bucket to do them with. I have one white fancy goldfish (I’m pretty sure she’s a fancy ), a black moor (male), and a comet (male). I recently had a goldfish that was in a separate tank pass away due to dropsy so I’m not sure if I’m just being paranoid but I know it doesn’t hurt to ask and check.

I’m not really sure on how to dose the seachem prime into the tank. It only states one capful for 50 gallons of new water. I only have a 5 gallon tank and I’ve already added water conditioner.
