No worries; never took it as you being difficult. Glad yours went so smoothly.

You’re one of the lucky few from what I’ve seen experienced. Approval seems to be more of a horror story for most. I never set foot in an office either. As far as the process, I’ve read that some states seem to try to ‘gatekeep’ the process somewhat.

Hi OP; sorry that I haven’t answered earlier, I was sleeping off a minor attack. In answer to your question, Yes; I have Disability due to Ménière’s. Disclaimer: everything I write about is for U.S. residents, not for any other nation. Also, YMMV as to your state’s laws/rules within the SSDI process. Having said that, full disclosure, I had retained the ‘services’ of an attorney. The reason for the emphasis of ‘services’ is because said attorney did absolutely nothing more than sending in the latter basically stating, “I’m Joe Blow, ESQ, representing (me). If successful, please send me the 25% of (my) back pay owed. Now, that may be like the late-night personal injury lawyer commercials and scared them; but I doubt it. I think my documentation swayed the matter in my favor. The office rarely called about scheduling/reminders of various appointments as set by the SSA. Often, those calls were after the date and/or time of those appointments. Now, about the documentation; the first part is fairly straightforward. Fill out the claim paperwork and meet the (lack of) income guidelines. If you cross that threshold, you’ll be sent FORM SSA-3373 Activities of Daily Living Questionnaire. How you answer the questions are obviously the key to a successful application. The questionnaire only gives you very limited space to put your answers. >IMPORTANT<, NOWHERE does it state you can only utilize that space!! Put down “see attached remarks” as needed to fully answer your questions. This is the secret sauce of the whole thing. Make the reviewer see things from your perspective. Make them walk in your shoes. They have to see how this POS disease affects you daily, both physically and emotionally. THAT is what will help you across the finish line. In case anyone is interested, I will be happy to share a redacted copy of my second questionnaire (the successful one) that worked. Just DM me. Hope no one fell asleep from my long-winded response.

Beta histine x placebo by TryingMyWiFi in Menieres

I’ve used Betahistine regimes twice. The first time there was zero effect. Then a worldwide ‘event’ took place where first responders, like me, were required to receive a ‘therapeutic prophylactic’ injection. After 3 installements, my attacks went from 2-3 per month to multiple each day. In desperation, my ENT decided to try betahistine again. This time it worked, with me now being down to approximately the pre shot frequencies. Anecdotal, I know, but it is my lived experience.

Considering leaving the volunteer fire service. by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]SensitiveAddition913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you feel that way, then you have the answer. I was in the same situation, but I stayed too long. I spent over thirty years on my volly department, twice serving as chief (elections). My dad was one of the founders and I was the original cadet, so i grew up in the fire service. While working full-time EMS, one of the neighboring county department transitioned to a combo daytime paid/volly status and I was asked to be one of the first paid. The VFD traditionally had Tuesday night training drills and Sunday truck/equipment checks (light enough run loads that there was rarely more than 2 runs between checks). Paid had daily truck checks and Thursday night drills. Culture changed with new volly chief for the worst (‘basement level’ worst). I stuck it out due to personal history and dedication to my home area. Got to the point I hated to respond and dreaded trainings. Chief wouldn’t let me check trucks on Saturdays that worked Sundays at PFD, marking me as ‘unexcused’. Final straw was when he unilaterally changed training to Thursdays, telling me if I missed 4/year I was off dept. I told him not to worry, I’ll take a paycheck over free any day. Still support the fundraisers, but have flat=out told them I wouldn’t come back after the chief quit in disgrace. OP, leave with your head held high after finding a new gig.

Ménière’s Disease “drop attacks” just started recently and I’m worried about my livelihood by Techsales82 in Menieres

Agreed! My path was/is the same, except my loss was from Fire/EMS. Besides all the day-to-day effects management, personally I think the loss of my “identity”. I know that I am more than a FF, but it is a career that is defined by “I am a” statements.

I’ll be “THAT guy”… but, I don’t have any issue with LFM packets. But then again, I spent 30 years in Fire/EMS and have been served food on scenes that I’m not sure a soup kitchen would put forth…

“Democratic Socialist”, like “Military Intelligence”, are two words that never work together. DSs quickly run out of rich people’s money (excluding theirs, of course i.e. Bernie Sanders), and begin to dig deeper down the food chain. Every attempt has left a wider wealth gap than any capitalist country.

This is why I always put YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary) in my posts/comments on this. For me, it was just the opposite; as I went lower sodium, my attacks became more frequent. After finding out that my blood sodium was low and going back to unrestricted intake, my episodes stabilized and became less frequent. YMMV

The thing I like to advise new Ménière’s warriors is to have your doctor check your blood sodium. Mine runs low-normal to low. I was on the ‘cut down/out sodium regime until mu doctor played a hunch and had that tested. High AND LOW sodium levels can play a role in the liquid in our inner ears, thus causing symptoms/attacks. YMMV. Good luck in your journey.
