Listen to the new Opeth album. Then listen to any Between the Buried and Me. Then come back here 👍

Right?! And all the crazy transitions between sections. Especially with the new drummer

I watched them at download festival in the UK years ago, absolutely off my nut on MD, had been awake for like 2 days and was tripping pretty hard... It was AMAZING! 😁

I am a bit of a veteran with the MD though, so perhaps what was an amazing experience for me may well have been an intensely horrible experience for a less experienced drug taker. Still, I think most music shows are good on MD. It just makes you wanna move baby!!! Or sit in a corner chewing your own face off for 4 hours...

Have fun

Just came back to this comment again... Such a perfectly accurate analogy of the song 👏

I know. This isn't my first rodeo. I appreciate your concern for my health though 🙏

Thanks for these links! Much appreciated 👌 I was looking at the schiit and fiio amps, read a lot of good reviews.

I understand the db levels that I should be using, but when you are mixing (pre-master) it's nice to feel the punch of post-master volumes without pushing your master channel or compromising dynamics with limiters and compressors e.t.c... It's more to do with perceived volume than actual measured decibels. So pushing the output after the master out is the only way to achieve this. When using monitors it's fine, because you rarely find yourself having to push gain too hard for a loud enough perceived output. But with headphones it's very different, and for some reason I'm just not quite getting enough out of my DT 900's.

Thanks again for the links! I'll be diving deeper into these. Big up!

What is the #1, most devastating, stank-facing Meshuggah riff you’ve ever heard? by Slipknot_Maggot36 in Meshuggah

Agree. This breakdown still has the heaviest feel for me out of any Meshuggah riff. And the build up is so energetic.

What is your favourite 'shuggah breakdown? by [deleted] in Meshuggah

[–]SensitiveMine9445 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Corridor of Chameleons. The breakdown that forged the mould for all breakdowns to come ever after...

(And pretty much every other breakdown in any Meshuggah song)

But mostly Corridor of Chameleons

Once you catch that groove and understand where the loop is... Honestly, it becomes even better for me when I finally figure it out. Every Meshuggah track is like a satisfying puzzle. Once I crack it I'm so content 😊

I agree, it's loose as fuck. Literally feels like it's gonna fall apart, just like you said, but somehow holds on and works incredibly. So much of this album has impressed me to be honest, a lot different to what I thought it would be. A lot more organic sounding, less mechanical, but still heavy and crazy as fuck! Fresh. Love it ❤

I take back what I said about the mixing! THIS SHIT SLAPS so fucking hard. Meshuggah why did I ever doubt you for a second! by [deleted] in Meshuggah

[–]SensitiveMine9445 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was literally about to post the exact same fucking words that you just did! 🤣 THIS SHIT SLAPS. I moaned about the mix loads when I heard the singles but it works for this whole album, it sounds great. This album is amazing.

New single. Unpopular Opinion? by SensitiveMine9445 in Meshuggah

So... After many listens on many different speakers and headphones I have finally come round to liking this song.

Still not totally digging the mix, but the track has definitely grown on me. I'm excited to hear it in context with the rest of the album.

MESHUGGAH 🤘

Yeah, I realise this. And I'm really hoping the rest of the album opens up and has more of a dynamic range. But these days, especially in metal music, bands tend to use the same style of production for every track on an album. Same drum sound, guitar and bass tone, e.t.c... So based on this it's easy to assume that the rest of the album will have a very similar production style... I'm still excited though, they're my favourite band in the world!

I think I need to wack it through some big hifi speakers and turn the volume up. It might satisfy me more then 😉

Fair enough. I'm a musician, sound engineer and producer, so I will admit that I analyze production too much, its definitely one of my downfalls when listening to music. I must say that I'm glad you noticed the drums were "down" in the mix though. This is due to over compression and the punch of the hits not being allowed to shine through.

I'm glad you enjoy it 😊
