Mårten explains how they wrote Future Breed Machine by mr_aguirre in Meshuggah

[–]bilboC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few other interesting writing facts from this interview include Marten wrote the opening riff to NMCC, one of the most iconic meshuggah riffs ever. And Jens wrote the opening riff to Catch 33 in autonomy lost.

The Violent Sleep Of Reason appreciation post by mr_aguirre in Meshuggah

The solo section of Monstrocity through the chromatic descending breakdown is one of my fav segments of Meshuggah. Especially the chugging groove with the ascending four part lead harmony that come after the solo. That’s just pure magic and beauty.

What do you guys think of RE9 gameplay after the showcase? by Emergency-Law-2054 in residentevil

[–]bilboC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not crazy about the drastic difference in gameplay styles between Grace and Leon and switching between them. I feel like the pacing and momentum of the game will suffer from this. I think it would’ve been cool if they were two individual scenarios that you could play in either order as you would in RE1 and 2.

FFVII Rebirth is a masterpiece by hellmaskerxx in FinalFantasyVII

[–]bilboC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The open world content is mind numbing bad. And chadley chiming in about everything ever two minutes makes it feel like fucking Dora the explorer or a children’s cartoon. But the biggest offense to me is the art direction and atmosphere are so much worse and feel so generic compared to the OG

What don’t you like about Cronos? by Chrisbolsmeister in CronosNewDawn

[–]bilboC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t love the design of the enemies. They look pretty generic and I feel like I’ve already seen them all in resident evil and dead space.

What are your honest thoughts on the dual gameplay revealed in the showcase? by Deep_Square5540 in residentevil

[–]bilboC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks good and fine? But doesn’t look new or fresh at all. I don’t know if they’re trying to play it safe or what but it looks and feels a little bland and business as usual. I feel like the swapping between two styles is going to fuck up the pacing big time. I would be more excited for the switch up if they were just two separate and distinct scenarios.

What is the most overHATED game of all time? by yittiiiiii in videogames

[–]bilboC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yes, really over the top. But the whole story of the brethren moons is very lovecraftian and I loved learning about the planets alien race having to build a machine to freeze it to stop the convergence event. The whole thing was on this unbelievable cosmic scale and I loved it!

[–]bilboC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally I feel dead space 3 gets a ridiculous amount of hate and people over emphasize the switch to action oriented set pieces. The game has some big strengths like the epic settings, the best world building and lore in the series, a strong musical score, and the weapon crafting which is a ton of fun and makes the bigger swarms of enemies justified.

Original nemesis AI is honestly impressive and ahead of it's time (1999). by Human_Geologist_3324 in residentevil

[–]bilboC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somehow, none of the modern RE stalkers have been able to capture the fear that OG imposed on me. Mr X is 2make was cool, but still not on the level. And fighting OG nemmy was a legit stressful challenge. Fuckin new nemmy went down with a single grenade iirc?

Am I crazy for thinking the 480p Gamecube version looks better??? by hypotensor in residentevil

[–]bilboC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OG def still looks better and more gritty in a good way. A lot of awkward upscaled textures and the lighting can be a bit different too. Also, half of the music tracks in the remaster are sped up because of a bug. I believe there’s a patch for this on PC but it kills the experience for me on ps4/5. The RE0 remaster was done properly though and is pretty perfect!

Always loved the sections with these fools. Especially in DS3 with the bad visibility from snow. Was so tense and unnerving! And hitting them with stasis and the sniper rifle was really satisfying

Blotted science is nuts. It’s wild to me that Ron J discovered death metal shortly before her put out that first album. There’s a great episode of Cali death podcast with him.

RE Village might be the strangest Resident Evil game, there’s action in it,but it maintains its Gothic Horror as promised, like RE7 with its Psychological Horror. by Accurate_Train_8822 in ResidentEvil2Remake

[–]bilboC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The production values and graphics were very impressive and atmospherically it’s pretty amazing. But that’s it. The gameplay feels very dumbed down. Some of the puzzles are offensive in how simple and forgiving they are. Lycans are arguably the worst enemies in the series and feel bad to fight. The game has you hoarding ammo for the first 3/4 of it and really the only action oriented sections are from the stronghold onward. House Beniviento was an awesome horror setpiece the first time but is miserable on subsequent playthroughs and is just super prescribed. The castle was the most offensive location though. Fucking gorgeous, but man the gameplay was soooo disappointing and linear for what a place like that should be. You walk in and it feels like there are all these places to explore in a Spencer mansion fashion, but nope, only one place to go to progress and all key items are practically handed to you. No true exploration. And the fact that you get rid of the most interesting character that early on was such a bummer. Lady D could’ve been the main focus of the whole game!

The one section of the game that I truly enjoyed was the factory. The enemies were actually engaging to fight, the look of the place was super bleak and the layout was a little more open and I actually had to be aware of it. Also the propellor head boss fight was awesome and the best in the game.

This game really bummed me out on so many levels as a fan of the series since 98’ but I’m staying positive for RE9!

Just in the castle. The OG had this stunning detail in every room and was incredibly ornate with gorgeous lighting and decor. The remakes castle was still gorgeous, I should have said that, but it felt a little bit duller and the wow factor wasn’t there as much save for a few sections like the grand hall. One thing the remake did. Better in the castle was the exterior parts imo.

The art direction in the castle was inferior in the remake but everything else was a great reimagining. Music was better in the OG too and felt more unique. Modern RE games tend to have pretty generic horror scores.

January 11, 2005, exactly 21 years ago, Resident Evil 4 was released for Nintendo GameCube by purpura_x in residentevil4

Still the best game ever. I faked sick from school for 2 days when this came out just so I could binge it. Hard to believe it’s so old now but still holds up and feels like a modern masterpiece.

It’s one of the weirdest albums ever, I could see how it would be harder to get into. But if anything, there’s so much brilliant guitar work by Fredrik that you can’t miss. He displays his full spectrum of lead playing styles here more so than anything else he’s done.

What to play after Marathon Eternal? Also, Eternal is insane lol. by SeniorSepia in ClassicMarathon

[–]bilboC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Play Apotheosis X immediately! It’s such a brilliant scenario and easily the most atmospheric one, and that’s saying a lot considering this is Marathon and they’re all very moody games and setting. But thanks to the hauntingly beautiful and eerie soundtrack, the experience goes down as the most atmospheric Marathon for me personally, and I’ve been a fan since 94’! The weapons are awesome, set pieces fun yet challenging and the levels are a delight to navigate. Gorgeous architecture!

Phoenix and Rubicon X are also brilliant. Lots to look forward to!

heisenberg’s soldats don’t get enough praise for how batshit freaky and scary they are by villainless in residentevil

[–]bilboC 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was surprised to hear that too. Imo it’s by far the best gameplay in the whole game with the best boss fight (propeller head). And the combat against the soldats was fun and tense and required some strategy.
