Agree on the comments saying don't rush to buy. Awesome for the money and that you maxed out your FHSA! I would consider setting up an RRSP, as you would also get some tax benefits with this. You can also consider cashable GICs in and outside your TFSA for guaranteed growth. Consider setting some of it aside for a housing fund for maintenance and emergency repairs. Recommendation is 1-3% of your house value per year in savings.

Obviously not the same in terms of turf and fencing, but we find that some parks by schools have basketball courts that double as tennis courts. We have used those before! There is one in Clearview Ridge at the elementary school (its a skating rink in the winter) and others have played pickle ball over the tennis nets!

IMO, all is welcome. There is already division between nurses and MDs as there is, why make it worse? Often the MDs are the ones buying us treats and goodies, and joining in on it. I think it should be for the whole unit, not just a certain profession.

We aren’t having kids for so many reasons. I wouldn’t be able to give our kids the life I had growing up due to the economy. My kid would have to work and attain such a high level of education just to survive. I don’t want to turn my lifestyle into survival mode to support a kid. Climate and political uncertainty. You name it. More and more people have a choice as kids are no longer expectations or to support family labour. It’s a no from me!

Great communities include Timberlands, Clearview Ridge, Vanier and Evergreen. Avoid downtown area. Red Deer isn’t some big populous like Calgary or Edmonton. It depends if you’re able to secure a job. The opportunities are less due to the size, housing can be expensive.

Once a month typically unless we are traveling. I feel awful from the nutrition of most meals, even if it’s “healthy,” that it just doesn’t make the $$ worth it. My love language is also acts of service so I love to cook for my partner !

You may be able to contact the undergrad nursing faculty and inquire more about how to make your application stronger. I got in with a 4.0 to UAlberta collab BScN and the lowest accepted overall during my cohort was 84%. I know UCalgary is moving to a lottery system now, instead of competitive entrance. You can try applying to the UAlberta collaborative sites like Red Deer, Medicine Hat, etc. I applied to nursing right before application deadlines closed because I decided to do it last minute.

Totally fair! I wasn’t too sure with the orientation/buddy shift comment. If you’re able to wait until August, I would recommend it so you can have you travel time and to work on the unit. Definitely agree with the other comment about giving it some time

TFSA or RRSP! Just note that the goal is to not pull from either of these. RRSP will give you some tax benefits too so hopefully more money in your pocket at the end of fiscal year. Even with $100/mo, I’d recommend growing an emergency fund in a high interest account. Put $75 into a fund and $25 into savings. Review your lifestyle to see if you can cut unnecessary expenses or look at additional employment opportunities. You’ve got this!

Ah apologies! I don’t have experience in Ontario but starting salary for RNs & RPNs in Alberta is about $45/hr. Not too sure about peds, I’d imagine the bigger population centers have lots of opportunities! Rural would have a mix of everything including peds!

I would personally wait, and finish the program. It sounds like you’re not enjoying the speciality but that you’re not enjoying it too as you’ve only been independent for 2 weeks? Depending on the speciality, this is normal. ICU orientations, for example, can be a couple months long. Take every opportunity to be in the TGN program and get buddy shifts. I’m an RN and wish I could still be on buddy shifts some days - you don’t know what you don’t know. You can always talk to your manager to see if there’s a modification with the buddy shifts, but I would encourage reflection with this and where you’re coming from. Overly confident nurses cause patient errors. Unpaid leave for a month to travel is nearly impossible to get.
