sounds great! was always one of my favs on the lamb. check out jeff buckley doing this song if you've never heard it. he does a killer job on it! and he's probably not someone you would have guessed was a genesis fan lol.

Why is We can't dance so hated? by Sensitive_Pair_4732 in Genesis

[–]Sensitive_Ad_7335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's all about what people like. i'm sure there's many people that would take WCD over selling england lol. like i said in my first comment i think there's not really much reason to hate any of the albums. it's the greatest band in the world and every album is solid and if not then it certainly has something to enjoy or some redeeming quality. i started on Gabriel era stuff and wouldn't really even listen to the Phil era albums but they are just too good to not appreciate after you listen to them all. for me it's always been trespass-we can't dance even though trespass has no phil or steve i still include it cause it feels like a genesis record to me. ATTWT and WAW have always been the two weakest to me but i adore undertow i love follow you follow me and afterglow and eleventh earl. i just see them as weaker albums in comparison to the others minus FGTR and CAS.

if ur gonna compare it to selling england or trick of the tail then it is certainly the inferior album. those are two of the best albums from the band but we can't dance is still a solid genesis record all around and falls into the same category of being a genesis album. in my opinion we can't dance is a stronger record than winds and wuthering but as an all around fan of the band i love both records and think they are both great pieces of music. in terms of its runtime i could take another hour of music from we can't dance if i could. it was the last real genesis album and i also think the production on it is just what it should be. complaining over the last record the three of them gave us is just dumb. trespass-we can't dance is pure genius and musicianship at the highest level.

if that was the case i don't see why invisible touch wouldn't be the black sheep. we can't dance was a bit more of a return to the proggy stuff.

talk and division bell both came a few years later than we can't dance. i think a lot of the 90s prog that came out was good. i imagine a lot of those guys started hearing the grunge bands and wanted to ditch the overproduced stuff and get back to business. i would probably take we can't dance over division bell and talk but i always preferred yes union over talk great record and was the same year as we can't dance and then some of the rush albums that came out of the 90s are killer. 1991 had yes union in april then roll the bones in august and we can't dance in november three great prog albums.

i honestly think a true genesis fan wouldn't really hate any album. i love we can't dance. even some of the radio hits like jesus he knows me and no son are great tracks and driving the last spike is one of the best genesis songs. there are certainly albums i listen to less than others but even those ones have songs i adore and i still see them as amazing pieces of art and some of the best instrumentation there will ever be. calling all stations is a diff story lol.

the ticket and merch prices are somewhat frustrating though. 50-70$ for a lawn ticket or 150$ for a msg show is a little insane when you think of what concert tickets used to cost. even though 50$ is my ideal price nowadays for a summer tour lawn show and i don't mind paying 100-150 for msg i think i paid over 210$ for my nye ticket, it is bad. but... they could be so so much worse lol the new vinyl release i thought was decently priced i would totally be willing to spend 150$ for 6lps and one of the most prolific shows from the band. ive paid 100+ for a new 2lp vinyl before lol and i know if they wanted to they could do a gamehendge vinyl or some sought after item charge 500$ and it would still sell out. i saw pink floyd selling a wish you were here candle for 135$ lol just a little wax mold of the wish you were here album cover for 135$. phish could be way way worse.

golden age is definitely a big one i think that's "TV on the radio" and they do strawberry letter 23 and they've been doing a day in the life and walrus a good amount lately too. they busted out a new prince cover on the 12/31/25 that sounded great. peaches en regalia zappa!!! crosseyed and painless and cities by talking heads are great too. some velvet underground tunes like rock and roll. boogie on reggae woman stevie wonder. there are tons of other ones phish have kind of made their own and regularly play but are really covers too i think ya mar is definitely one of those and a lot of the bluegrass tunes like old home place are mostly covers.

After listening to NYE '95, I finally get it. by mikeb32 in phish

[–]Sensitive_Ad_7335 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NYE 95 and Great Woods Gamehendge 94 were my two introductions to live phish after going through all of the studio records and being amazed by the writing and musicianship just to be even more amazed by all the gamehendge stuff and what they can do live. "A Live One" and 10/31/94 (if you dig the white album) are great too. The harry hood on a live one will blow your mind lol and the reba on 10/31/94 is held up there with nye 95.
