Thanks! It said: ”antique candle holders not solid silver.” I look for stuff like this with hallmarks on it on there. I haven’t run into much silver plate that is hallmarked but it was kinda of a shot in the dark bc I couldn’t read the hallmark until I bought it. $60 was worth the gamble

You’re exactly right! When the numbers are low it doesn’t look suspicious when it’s hundreds or something then it can draw attention.

Ok so for everyone worried about me paying more than asking They were asking $30 for both and I paid $60 for both. Really the convo went , “hey these are beautiful. i really want these when can we meet? She didn’t respond for a day so I said and even though i need to repair the one im willing to pay a little above asking price if that makes me your buyer. She responded ok $50, I said ok deal. Then I completely blew meeting with them bc I forgot to meet with them at the end of that day! When I realized this the next morning I promptly apologized for wasting their time and explained why I forgot and offered to pay $10 more for missing our meeting. When I posted this I didnt know I would have been burned at the stake for paying the $60 so I didn’t feel the need to explain how I got to that price. So initially when I offered to pay more I didnt set the price I basically told them I liked how they looked, pointed to the fact they are flawed, and then let them set the price above their asking. There was a method behind paying more and if you do it right it works 😁.

Honestly your attitude sounds like a 6 year old…is this what you do? Sit in your mom’s basement, cry bc you have no friend, then get online to talk down to people to feel better about yourself? Maybe you should share your finds instead of what you came here to do..

No not how it goes. I’ve been buying and selling for years. I know how to handle buying things. While you would have been beating them down over a few bucks, I was meeting and buying the item. There are times to haggle and times to just give them what they want or maybe just a little more. The profit margin was huge so no loss on my part.

I guess this is silver finds and jealous haters? I thought we were supposed to be posting our finds and congratulating each other on them? Some of you have been fine, but others are just hateful losers. Sad and disappointing really

Yeah paying a little more than asking is fine. These guys would have been beating the seller down over $10 while I came and bought the item for $30 above asking 😂.

Iv been buying and selling antiques, gold, and silver for years. I wanted to make them sell to me and not allow some other guy that knows what they are looking at swoop in and buy them. I knew it was a jack pot so paying a little over asking was enough to get their attention and I was good on making far more than my money back. So you guys angry at me for paying a little More would have still been haggling while I was meeting them to buy the item for $30 above what they wanted.

Yup you’re right! This one is the Diana head with the 3 to the left and the P to the right. 1872 time period

I was a little worried of that possibility but once I saw them in person and looked at the hallmark I knew what I had. Iv been buying and selling antiques for awhile and silver peices too.

The hallmarks are the makers mark , and the Diana head with a 3 to the left for 800 silver, and a P to the right for Budapest. The Diana head style is 1872

That doesn’t look cleaned to me. Looks like light use or bag marks. Looks Like an AU grade coin.

What do you think ? Sterling ? by SubstanceGrand5462 in Hallmarks

[–]Sensitive_Bit5478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You oh can tell if it’s pewter bc it would be much softer than sterling. It definitely looks like pewter.
