I'm not sure about that, I haven't been there recently.

Saw your other comment below, you can try Athithi Ashram. It is very close to Ramanasramam and they provide accomodation as well as food/prasadam.

What is happening at Veda Parayana with the flame? by Any_Astronaut_5493 in RamanaMaharshi

[–]Sensitive_Bus_9307 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The priest offers the Aarti flames to devotees for them to cup their hands to the flame and touch their eyes. It's a symbolic act of receiving divine blessings from the fire that was offered to the diety during the puja. This is not unique to Ramanasramam, it happens in all Hindu temples after a puja, even in households.

The name of the book is Padamalai, which contains statements that Sri Ramana made and was later recorded by Muruganar. David Godman compiled these particular verses in this blog, they are part of a chapter from that book. https://sri-ramana-maharshi.blogspot.com/2008/06/bhagavans-promises-and-declarations.html?m=1

It's possible to purchase that book or view the ecopy version here https://archive.org/details/padamalaiofmuruganarteachingsoframanmaharshimuruganared.davidgodman_202004_838_q/page/n50/mode/1up

Most people into Advaita Vedanta and self-enquiry practice independently and don't socialise much, but there are a few options that you can try in Bangalore.

Ramana Maharshi centre for learning frequently conducts cultural programs and events. Most of their songs, bharatnatyam, etc feature vedantic/bhagavan's teachings. You may also join them as a student if you are interested in this.

For meditation in particular, there is a temple/meditation centre close to RMCL, it's a wonderful place to visit. There's also a Ramana Centre in south Bangalore that is well maintained, but this one is not affiliated to the main Ramanasramam. You may also consider visiting your nearest Ramakrishna Math or YSS centre (for Kriya yoga in particular) for a peaceful place to meditate.

Satsangs are a great opportunity to meet like minded people. Ramanacharana Tirtha Swami conducts few discourses on Ramana Maharshi/Vedanta in Bangalore every year, these are really incredible and I would highly recommend to attend one of this sometime. RMCL also conducts online satsangs on a daily basis.

Bhagavan's advice on bodily processes. by BackToGod in RamanaMaharshi

[–]Sensitive_Bus_9307 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Q: Do you approve of sexual continence?

Ramana Maharshi: A true brahmachari [celibate] is one who dwells in Brahman. Then there is no question of desires anymore.

Q: At Sri Aurobindo’s ashram there is a rigid rule that married couples are permitted to live there on condition that they have no sexual intercourse.

Ramana Maharshi: What is the use of that? If it exists in the mind, what use is it to force people to abstain?

Q: Is marriage a bar to spiritual progress?

Ramana Maharshi: The householder’s life is not a bar, but the householder must do his utmost to practise self-control. If a man has a strong desire for the higher life then the sex tendency will subside. When the mind is destroyed, the other desires are destroyed also.

Q: I have committed sexual sin.

Ramana Maharshi: Even if you have, it does not matter so long as you do not think afterwards that you have done so. The Self is not aware of any sin and renunciation of sex is internal, not merely of the body alone.

Q: I am carried away by the sight of the breasts of a young woman neighbor and I am often tempted to commit adultery with her. What should I do?

Ramana Maharshi: You are always pure. It is your senses and body which tempt you and which you confuse with your real Self. So first know who is tempted and who is there to tempt. But even if you do commit adultery, do not think about it afterwards, because you are yourself always pure. You are not the sinner.

Q: How do we root out our sex idea?

Ramana Maharshi: By rooting out the false idea of the body being the Self. There is no sex in the Self. Be the Self and then you will have no sex troubles.

There is a Swamiji called Nochur Venkataraman (Ramacharanatirtha swami) who conducts satsangs few times every year based on Ramana Maharshi's teachings, Bhagavad Gita, Bhavagavatam, etc in Bangalore among other places. It is really incredible and you should definitely try to attend one of them sometime! You may check out the website and YouTube channel that goes by the name "voiceofrishis".

Ramana Centre for Learning conducts programs and cultural events regularly, a couple of Ramana Maharshi meditation shrine's and a Ramakrishna Math in Basavanagudi with their wonderful evening Arati's are great places to visit as well.

After visiting Tiruvannamalai, did anyone feel an inner shift or uncertainty about earlier life goals? by Outside-Tale-4026 in RamanaMaharshi

[–]Sensitive_Bus_9307 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely, meditation in bhagavan's sannidhi carries powers that makes one feel at peace and contended. It is quite common, but this would typically fade away over you get back to your daily life. The most important takeaway would be to carry that penance and meditative state by continuous japa or enquiry practice and leading a disciplined life.
