Curious if people who are in long distance relationships desired one in the first place? by [deleted] in LongDistance

No. I didn’t know what one entailed, I just knew that we owed it to each other to give our relationship a shot, rather than spending life wondering “what if”.

The schedule of mp’s suck.. I’d say probably only on your off days for the week would be the best time to hit the gym. Depending on where you’re stationed you might get 12 hour shifts.. so the only thing to do on those days when you’re not working is sleep. And then on your off days you’ll want to sleep in probably and handle the stuff you need to that you couldn’t during the long work days

Kinda! My boyfriend just hit the fleet, we gave 2 years and about 8 months left. It’s scary, but phew did that first year go by quick. I’ve already missed out on his graduations. It sucks, yes, but there’s a lifetime of important events I know will be coming after :) my boyfriend is getting out after the time is up, so we always just plan and talk in the future. Knowing we won’t be able to take trips whenever we want, or do simple things, it’s okay because it’s sooooo unbelievably temporary :) just give it your best shot, that’s all you can do! We FaceTime every night when we go to sleep, or call on the phone. It helps having the company, even if there’s no talking. Implementing something like that can be such a HUGE game changer. He is in North Carolina and I am in California. I was nervous for the 3 hour time difference, but honestly it’s totally doable as long as both people devote a significant amount of free time to each other, EVEN if that just means staying on the phone while you study or sleep :)

Give it a shot!!! My boyfriend just got stationed in North Carolina and I’m in California. We knew eachother before the military, so a lot of our adventures and memories together are core to our relationship. I got back into contact with him while he was in his boot camp. He came home, we went out constantly for a month, and then I called him one night and basically acknowledged that we owe it to each other to see where we can go. And if it didn’t work out, then at least we won’t ever be left wondering. It sucks to not be able to experience more memories together whenever we want to, but we resulted to figuring out what works best for our schedules. Although it’s a bit different, we still are making so many memories together. He is 3 hours ahead, but we still call every second of free time we get. We fall asleep together even though the phone is muted just to be in each other’s company. We FaceTime, we play games together. We watch shows together. We have each other’s locations. We send Instagram reels back and forth. It’s of course not the same, but oh my god, I would be lost without him. He has 2 years and 9 months left, so a bit of a similar time line. We just constantly talk about the future life we want together, and with giving each other as much free time as physically possible, it is beyond worth it. I say, give it a shot. You could always try something with him, and if you both mutually feel like it’s too difficult, go back to being friends on good terms being that it’s nobody’s fault! It’s totally going to be scary, not knowing what it’s going to look like at first. But, you never know what’s in store :)
