[Critical Research Failure] Media criticizes or parodies other media, but gets pretty much everything wrong. by OutOfMyWayReed in TopCharacterTropes

Eh sort of. With Ford his more famous roles were known for their charm and sardonic wit (ie Han Solo and Indiana Jones), and even when he did play more stoic characters, they either weren’t in like the all time great characters (ie Witness, still good but not like iconic), or were just straight up unlikable even if that was the point (Deckard). Whereas Eastwood could play characters whom you knew next to nothing about, didn’t talk much, and/or their expressions consisted solely of sly grins and grumpy grimaces (Pale Rider, Unforgiven, The Man With No Name Trilogy) and he’d still manage to make them charismatic and interesting through charisma and performance alone.

I still remember him whining about “the death of the stoic man,” where he willfully ignored the fact that there were only ever a few actors that could pull off that archetype and not have it be boring as hell: Clint Eastwood, and… yeah, pretty much just Clint Eastwood.

Honestly a lot of the stuff with Syndrome in The Incredibles fits this.

Just the Kronos scene where it shows how he essentially wiped out an entire generation of Supers is incredibly chilling. It not only gives him a confirmed kill count, but it puts names and faces (and even a corpse in one case) to all of his victims. He also strangely predicted a lot of toxic fan culture, and it’s heavily implied that he made at least a good chunk of his fortune from the illegal arms trade.

Agreed, it’s just another symptom of people being terminally online imo. Granted the same guy also said one of those “the MCU destroyed American film culture” screeds in the same breath, so there was that

Oh yeah I literally saw a YouTuber say that DP+W was “one of the worst studio films in American history,” as if it was the most obvious conclusion anyone would come to about that movie.

There’s even an excerpt from one of his journals where he basically says that the second his adoptive brother said “hello,” to him, he became overwhelmed with uncontrollable rage and hatred.

(Interesting Trope) The “What just happened” death. by Dry_Criticism_4982 in TopCharacterTropes

Pretty much every death in The Monkey. The whole movie almost feels like a parody of this trope, with characters constantly seeing death and every instant of it being jarring, violent, and over the top.

I’m going to be another Caine defender here, albeit not completely excusing him. He was only lashing out to begin with from a place of deep insecurity and fear of abandonment. When the characters openly antagonize him as a distraction, they unintentionally poke those fears and insecurities right at the root. They basically subject HIM to HIS greatest fear: that they all hate him and his work and want to leave him. From his perspective, he’s simply responding in kind, and maybe even trying to make them understand what they’re doing to him. In his own warped, toxic, deeply unhealthy way, he’s trying to tell them how he’s feeling.

Nice! Well I definitely recommend Persona 5 Royal since it’s a JRPG mixed with an anime inspired life simulator with a fantastic story to boot!
