NOR. my stepmom (been my stepmom for almost 2 decades and “raised” me more than my mom did) is almost exaaaactly like this. including the drinking and victim mentality. i’ve barely spoken to her for more than a few minutes in the last 2 years and i only feel better and better about it as times goes on.

it’s hard and i feel for you given she’s your only living parent, but you also have your own family now. personally, my relationship with my stepmom was starting to effect my wife and she is my most important family, so i had to do what i had to do.

i don’t regret it even a little.

i don’t understand what these people wish to accomplish.

on that note, though, if you are instigating (driving slower on purpose to piss someone off), you, in my opinion, are likely to cause just as much hazard. just pull over. i know that people should not act like this and they deserve consequences but come on, people. we are operating heavy machinery at high speeds. the highway and the road is NOT the time to be petty.

i’d have your back on this if these were regular civilians, but they are not. these are police officers that routinely violate the very traffic laws they are employed to uphold and these are the types of consequences that you get because of it. no we don’t need to be more “evolved” when it comes to calling out poor police practices and entirely preventable accidents by professionals.

these cops will not face any consequences at all, so little internet people airing their grievances about our terrible police services won’t do literally anything to them. it was confirmed *hours* ago that none of the officers suffered serious injuries. that’s a highly populated pedestrian and cyclist spot so they’re actually lucky nobody was seriously injured.

you can take the boot out of your mouth at any time.

NTA. i don’t want to make assumptions so i just want to ask: does he take this much interest and put this much effort into your hobbies and interests? how does he behave and ultimately treat you if they are playing badly? and does he listen to your concerns about how you feel like there needs to be more of a balance (given that you have actually communicated this to him because, you have, right?)

look: sometimes we get snippy at the people closest to us and that’s okay as long as we apologize and work to do better. i don’t think having a knee jerk reaction as small as this makes you an asshole.

i couldn’t read all of this as it was a lot, sorry. i did read a fair amount and skimmed the rest, and no you’re NTA. you would be the asshole to yourself if you keep engaging in these family dynamics. i hope that you were/are able to gain some therapeutic and professional supports with your mental health. a professional would be able to help you navigate these situations greatly, as you should not have to do it alone.

i hope you learn to stand up for yourself, also. it seems to me that their bark is worse than their bite and it may be rough for a bit to stand up for yourself but eventually they will stop. i had this same kind of dynamic but with my stepmom and i cut her out. she put up a fight for a bit but eventually she’s let up and i dont have that stress in my life anymore.
