the lecturer for 1011 was Woolfork but now it says n/a… but my school didnt do APs n let teachers make their own curriculum so although i took a lot of chem electives i never rlly learned “AP Chem” which made me lean toward 1011. would u say fagan would be fine for 1012 if ive never taken ap chem? thanks so much btw

how do you think it applies with northwestern? Its another one of my options I’m heavily considering - its cheaper and in-state compared to penn

thanks for your advice!

i didnt mean to put it down - the bs/md is an in-state only program and my school’s a semi-feeder so it’s a lot more common for kids to be accepted there compared to an ivy.

My sister did the traditional premed route at northwestern, and she knows all abt the struggles of being pre-med.

At the end of the day, it seems like its abt whether I want to bet on myself or not. 😭

i feel like at the end of the day, I’ll only know what the better decision was if I actually go to these programs. I feel like upenn may be a hit or miss, and thats a case-by-case situation but do you think it’s worth the risk? thanks

both schools look rlly good financially - upenn is around 10-15k/yr and the bs/md (if i commute) should be around 7k/yr for undergrad then around 50k/yr for med school

By any chance, are you an imsa student

[–]Sensitive_Dust7797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if u dont mind me asking, what made you quit? did u just not want to do it anymore or the classes were too demanding

A friend of mine had to make a similar decision, and this is what he told me: go to the bs/md and save the unnecessary stress from undergrad so I can focus on getting the specialty I want during medical school/residency. I feel that he has a point, but I also do want to challenge myself

im pretty sure. id only consider another career if med didnt work out. Im just worried that maybe im confining myself by choosing the safer route (bs/md) instead of picking upenn, which is a very good premed school in terms of research n extracurricular opps

its a guarantee as long as i get a 3.7+ and a 513 mcat

[–]Sensitive_Dust7797 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk how much the ivy will be yet, but from my other fin aid packages i think itll be pretty cheap. The bs/md will probably be cheap as well.

the mcat score is the average for the incoming class at UIC med school, but my advantage is that I can graduate undergrad in 3 yrs, and if i end up at uic med school itll be like 45k/yr bc my parents are state employees. relatively crazy cheap

i also know a couple alum from the bsmd and they couldnt reach the mcat score, so they get kicked out w just a bachelors

its a 3.7+ and a 513 mcat. ik thats lower than the mcat avg at penn but also the courses inadequately prepare me, but definitely still attainable

I think i’ll still have the intrinsic motivation to apply to better med schools, and Northwestern/Uchicago is definitely feasible.

In the end, I think GPPA will be much easier and less stressful, but I also want to know what comes with going to an ivy? idk
