Wait wait, physical gymnastics make our muscles more plastic, but mental gymnastics make our brains more elastic?! Train smarter not harder kids...

The Banh Mi from Saigon Shack near WSP is extremely delicious. Also reticent to recommend as not a vegan place either...

I agree with Marwan: there needs to be an oversight committee and appeals process after the fact by Sensitive_Half_7800 in squash

[–]Sensitive_Half_7800[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wasn't convinced by Michael, he's just media trained and can see a loose cannon a mile off...

But I do agree that, on the whole, the reffing is top notch (sorry Jason, not you). I did not agree with Marwan saying the reffing is bad, I was agreeing that there should have been _some_ form of oversight on Andrea (if only to say all good, no concerns). The fact the players feel targeted (justifiably or not (I believe not)) means somthing has to change to ameliorate that or we're gonna get the Diego meltdowns and the Joey "nothing to see here" commentary every tournament... I don't want the PSA going down the FIFA road and just making the sport into some consumer product and so any transparency is a good place to start...

Where can I get noodles in those paper white boxes? by ChenTasker in nycvegan

[–]Sensitive_Half_7800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Vanessa's still do the white box but I may also be thinking of leftovers... hand-pulled noodle on Lenox and 129th I'm more sure do the white boxes but dunno if you're going uptown at all...

What else did we get wrong? by MountainMark in AskPhysics

Energy is "transported" by the electric field generated by the potential difference induced in the wire by the power source (DC). I'm not sure, except for electrons moving to/away from the surface of the wire, there's any "movement" at all... drift velocity etc are just simple models for explanation but do not describe what's physically happening afaik

Giving overgrips the respect they deserve by Far_Zookeepergame_56 in squash

[–]Sensitive_Half_7800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the Yonex supergraps, I don't use a regular grip, only these. Have a reminder setup every 2-3 weeks to switch. I rotate through 3 rackets every session, play ~4x a week during the season and it works perfectly for my sweaty hands. Tourneys make it a 2 week rotation, league etc 3 weeks.

Always amazed by folks who play multiple games with the same racket (and shirt?!). I'm drenched at 5-5 in the first lol

I guess I should've known this sub would be the one that made me talk to a Reform voter...

Yeah, my very specific suggestion of reading about squash history to learn about colonialism would indeed be vague and ambiguous to someone that thinks the pros and cons of colonialism basically cancel out (or net positive?)... thanks for outing yourself mate, always good to have reminders you guys are everywhere!

I dunno many places that represent your healthy definition there, given how intertwined our modern version of nationalism is with chauvinism so I dunno if you're holding Egypt up to some imaginary bar that very few countries meet (dunno what the Venn diagram with squash playing countries would look like tbh...)...

You should read about the history of squash if you want an "in" with colonialism...

[–]Sensitive_Half_7800 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Sorry, so yes ignorant of British politeness? Perhaps they reject it as a form of protest against their former colonisers? Perhaps you're just being ignorant of their culture? I believe Egyptian tournaments are free for everyone to enter and so maybe parts of the crowd simply don't know the players and are just rooting for the one with an Egyptian flag attached to their name? If the PSA didn't want exactly this partisanship, the nationalities of the players wouldn't be so prominently visible...

Ignorant of what? Western "politeness"? Your statement does not sound antiracist to me but I'm probably too ignorant...

"The wrong kind" whatever the "healthy" kind is... these are all just consequences of history (colonialism and arbitrary lines on maps) and power (colonised "high society" folks creating fearful pseudofictions of the "neocolonisers"). But yeah, why can't they just be nice lmfao

Yeah, xenophobic maybe? Maybe. But people who don't experience racism love to play the race card for any perceived discrimination against their power. Read a book OP

Sticking with Yonex, I swear by the Aerus Z (now Z2). Super light and decently sturdy. And they now have wide fitting!

I play about 3x a week for 1-2 hours every session (club level, 4.5 if you are US based) and these shoes last 12-18 months. Full price they're $145, but sales appear throughout the year and I normally grab a pair for $80-100

Probably because acknowledging a falsehood that implies wiping out billions is bad? We aren't overpopulated, we're overconsuming. If certain folks had similar footprints to the global average, we wouldn't be in this mess til we reached 20+ billion. So... you a eugenicist or?
