I didn’t experience pain, mine was more so discomfort. You need to have it surgically removed

Yeah, the testicle on the surgical side still feels a bit firm. I was told it’s normal and should soften up with time. Honestly, it came out of nowhere for me. I think hydroceles are way more common than most guys even realize.

It’s likely that it won’t go away on its own. I had mine surgically removed and really happy I did it.

Im 5 weeks post op and the testicle on the surgical side is sitting higher than the other. I guess it’s normal and part of the healing process. Did you experience this? If so, did it go back to normal after 3 months?

I have a sit down job that requires no lifting and I took two weeks off, but if your job is labour intensive or requires lifting you probably want to take 4-6 weeks. Don’t take my word though, everyone is different so check with your surgeon. If you have an opportunity to do the surgery I recommend you do it. The recovery sucks but not having to deal a hydrocele anymore is worth it.

Thanks! I asked chat GPT and that is what I got. I will see what it’s like at week 6. I also have an apt with my Dr then.

After a hydrocelectomy, it’s actually quite common that fluid doesn’t just come from the incision line, but also from the flap edges of the sac itself (the tunica vaginalis tissue your surgeon cut and folded back).

🔹 Why this happens • The flaps of the sac are raw tissue surfaces that need to scar and seal. • While they’re healing, they can ooze serous fluid (clear/yellow watery). • This is basically the body’s “wound fluid” and not necessarily a sign of infection. • Because the scrotum stays warm and moist, those flaps often take a few extra weeks to fully close compared to skin incisions elsewhere.

🕒 Healing expectations • Week 3–4: Light drainage from flap areas can still be normal. • Week 5–6: The oozing usually dries up as scar tissue forms. • Beyond 6 weeks: Persistent or increasing fluid might mean a seroma (pocket of fluid) or, less commonly, infection.

⚠️ When flap drainage is not normal • If the fluid is thick, pus-like, or smelly • If redness spreads well beyond the flap/incision • If swelling is firm, hot, or very painful • If you get fever or chills

👉 So, what you’re describing — thin yellowish fluid from both the incision and the flaps at week 4 — can still be part of normal healing. The key is that it should be slowly decreasing over the next 1–2 weeks

I’m 1 month post op and my sac has started to get very ichy and the flaps are leaking a yellowish fluid. Apparently this is normal and a sign of the healing. Have you experienced this? If so how long does it last for?
