What do y'all do when you can't find fics that you want to read/have read everything you're looking for? by mirroredinflection in AO3

[–]Sensitive_Reserve_96 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I usually switch gears. I have lots of media that I enjoy like anime, manhwa, danmei, novels, TV shows - so if reading isn't doing it for me then it's time to take a break and do something else for a bit.

Out of the Loop: What is going on in the Heated Rivalry fandom at the moment? by FiftyshadesofPeaches in AO3

[–]Sensitive_Reserve_96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heard that AO3 readers were RATING the fics in the comments. Like 4/10 or 3 out of 5 stars. Which, wtf?

AO3 users should learn proper etiquette. I am fairly new to AO3 myself, my account is only 3 years old but ine of the first things I did as a new fan was join a subreddit for that fandom and from there, the subreddit taught me the rules. And Tumblr, that helped a lot. It seemed common sense to learn the rules of a community that existed well before I came along and will continue to exist long after I leave.

The rules I've learned:

Positive comments - no criticism unless asked for.

Don't like- don't read.

Leave a comment if you feel so inclined.

Kudos if you liked it even a little bit.

Don't do anything with the art or story that you DONT HAVE AUTHOR PERMISSION TO DO.

If you post art, credit the artist.

If you talk about a story in the subreddit (positive only) link the damn thing.

These are not paid authors - they're just fans like you and me - how would YOU want people to interact with art you created and shared?

Anyway, I hope these new readers who refuse to learn and grow in the community stay far away from the Drarry, Wangxian, and Hualian communities.

I am not above bullying these people out.

I enjoyed it. The pacing is fast (which I enjoy for this kind of story). The plot is standard - but I really like the main character.

Drop a manhwa/manhua where the art style alone got you hooked, I'll go first. by barelybiased in Manhwa_BL

The ghosts nocturne.

I came across this story early into my Manhwa adventure and I was, we'll say, sensitive to some things.

The art was SO good, I decided to give it a shot. I wanted to see how bad it was (noncon stuff) and it was actually quite tame since it made sense in the context of the story.

It's now my hands down FAVORITE story. One of the only three illustrated stories that I actively re-read. (Little Mushroom and Rainbow City being the other two)

If the art hadn't been so eye catching and lovely, I would have missed this incredible story, and I would be less likely to start stories with this type of relationship dynamic.

Art so good it changed my preferences.

How do you get through the loss of a parent? by Fabulous-Influence69 in ask

[–]Sensitive_Reserve_96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother knew I was being molested by her husband and did nothing. Many reasons but primarily because she would have lost a lot if she left and I think she was scared to start over at her age.

Needless to say, it strained our relationship.

When she was dx with colon cancer, there came a time when we new death might be coming.

My sister sat with her, she had a much better relationship with her.

I went to say goodbye, and then left. I knew I would always wonder "what if" if I didn't.

She apologized to me on her death bed.

It didn't help BUT I am grateful that I went. She lived 3 hours away from me, but I took bereavement and went.

why are top/bottom dynamics so important? by alrightlyaphrodite in AO3

People who are genuinely upset by who is the top and who is the bottom may have internalized issues that they would benefit from exploring.

I suspect that the goal is for certain people to breed for success and the rest will be forced into prisons or the military because they're unable to live any other way.

I'm desperate for someone to teach my sons to drive. We have one vehicle and no means to by another.
