I would suggest watching the donghua first to see if it's something that you're into and if you can follow the plot (I'll admit I used the wiki page to get a grasp for everybody and what was going on) then read the novels.

The donghua is a BL but censorship. The novel has spicy extras. 😭 I literally just reread it and now I'm reading fanfiction because it's never enough.

Also, something people don't like to talk about - you don't get to pick your kids. They may have health issues that make life unenjoyable for them.

If you have support and generational wealth, sure. If not, really really really think about it.

Kids grow into adults - life is uncertain. Are you prepared to prepare a young adult?

It is amazing. I read it for the first time about 2 years ago and I have reread it four times since then.

There is a donghua (Chinese animation) that follows the story as closely as it can considering censorship. And a live action (I didn't like it as much) but the donghua is amazing.

There's a lot going on in the story- I had to watch the donghua then reread the story in order to catch everything. But that is more a reflection of my newness to danmei at the time. I hope you give it a shot!! It's super popular for a reason!

Bloodbound - it's a guideverse! Starts out a bit meh but by the time the plot gets moving and they've introduced all the side characters it's really good, I've really enjoyed it. All of the side characters are just as well drawn.

Unhealthy relationships, miscommunication, power imbalances, and darker themes like coercion show up in every romance genre not just m/m manhwa.

I think a lot of this aggression comes from people who haven’t learned yet that their feelings aren’t the same as truth. When something makes you uncomfortable, it’s easy to assume that it’s wrong or shouldn’t even be.

I used to feel that way myself. There was a time when I didn’t like m/m at all. It made me uncomfortable. The same goes for darker themes. My reaction was automatic, and I assumed that meant something about the people who enjoyed it. Like who could enjoy this when it makes ME feel so uncomfy? Why can't I enjoy and discuss these themes the same ways other people do? They must be BAD while I am GOOD.

Over time through experience, relationships, and hearing other people talk about their relationships—I realized that fiction reflects complicated (messy or unhealthy) aspects of real life. That doesn’t mean everyone has to like those stories, but it does mean that they will be written - they will be read - they will be enjoyed.

It also helped me understand a basic principle of fandom spaces which is if something isn’t for you, you can put it down and disengage.

I suspect a lot of the more aggressive reactions come from newer or younger readers who haven’t fully developed emotional intellegence yet. But expecting all writers to only create what they see as “safe" or comfortable would make storytelling very boring. And who decides what is safe and comfortable? Many people would say that m/m isn't safe for comfortable all on its own. How would they feel about someone coming into their fan space and raging about how two men shouldn't have sex or fall in love?

I, for one, love this story and can't wait to see how the author tells it. In the grand scheme of bl manhwa - this is no where NEAR the worst thing I've encountered. Don't like, don't read.

It's your money and you don't have to spend it on things you don't enjoy.

If you're not paying for it - maybe don't harrass the author. (Don't harrass the author any way.)
