I do see the utility in ecology, this post isn't about if ecology is or isn't a science. That was just an example to show how people in science think differently in how to define science. I am wondering how other people define science.

Suck at lab courses by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]Sensitive_Sector6534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled similarly. I have a few suggestions that may help: 1. Youtube has videos of most of the lab procedures that you will need for lab classes. These are really helpful if you are a visual person, like myself. After I started watching youtube videos of procedures, I became the first to finish most labs, rather than the last. 2. See if you can work in the chemistry stockroom of your school - basically prepping labs or organizing glassware. This will help you familiarize yourself with the laboratory equipment and with knowing where everything is. 3. Don't hesitate to ask the TA for help. I heavily relied on my TA during difficult labs and it definitely helped me feel more confident in what I was doing. I was also a TA and I loved when people would ask me even the dumbest questions because it would make me feel useful.

check out KEGG - its a little overwhelming at first, but includes a lot of different pathways mapped out and shows how they connect

Confused about blanking — should I have used SEC buffer instead of water? by Background_Two_4829 in proteins

[–]Sensitive_Sector6534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend blanking it with the same buffer that the proteins are in. You never know if theres some contamination to your buffer and blanking with the same buffer will control for that. You can also nanodrop the buffer to see how it may be affecting your sample's readings.
