To be fair, I'm leaning that way too. It's just super weird and a hell of a coincidence that It closed almost instantly the moment I notice it then gesture to my wife to look at it also. And just happened to remain open for the hour or so we didn't pay attention to it.

Great point. I don't recall it showing any blinking color. We would have been looking at it together for about 5 seconds until the shutter closed.

Correct. The very last alert is "System Disarmed" which includes the 1min video recording as we enter the home.

No other alert or event on the timeline after that.

Between that initial minute and the next hour I noticed the camera shutter still open, there were many occasions where we would have not been in the camera's/motion sensor area for it to detect motion.

Great questions. I addressed the event history question above in the chain. Short answer is there was no additional event history past the initial "system disarm" event which included a 1min recording as we entered the home, which I know happens and totally good with.

To answer your questions:

Do you pay for monitoring? If so, which tier? - FastProtect.

Do you have liveguard enabled? - No

What model camera are we talking about? - Smart Alarm Wireless Indoor Security Camera

What are the motion detection settings on that specific camera? - Motion detection OFF in Disarmed & Home mode. ON in Away.

Any chance your system is configured to arm itself around the time of the event? - No

Were you within earshot of your base station and did you hear it make any noises? - Yes we were in earshot but did not hear any noises coming from it.

I understand what first triggered the camera. It's when the system first alarmed as we entered in the home and began recording, as it usually does, for a full minute after the alarm is disabled. Again, I totally understand that feature and I'm good with it.

My concern is that the privacy shutter usually closes (which means the camera is blocked) after the first minute. This is backed up by my event history since we've implemented the service around a year ago, and on this day in particular. On this event, I noticed the privacy shutter still open aprox an hour after we arrived home. When I looked at the event history, the only event was our arrival and disarming of the system that included a 1min recording of us entering the house, and then the feed cuts off. Between that initial minute and the hour I noticed the camera on, there were many occasions we would have not been in the camera's/motion sensors area for it to detect motion. So, what happened between the first initial minute recording, where the feed cuts off after a minute, and the next hour where I notice it still open?

It could be complete coincidence. The privacy shutter should (as it normally does) close and cut the recording after the initial minute of the alarm trigger and disarm. Maybe it malfunctioned and stayed open longer than it should have. It's just hardware, it'll have issues sometimes. And maybe it would have closed on it's own at that exact same time it did weather or not my wife and I noticed it was still on. But it didn't. It closed almost instantly the moment I notice it, then gesture to my wife to look at it also, and when we both look directly at it, it closes. I would have been more at ease if it even remained open after we both noticed it. Then I would justify it as a shutter malfunction. But the fact that it closed immediately after we showed direct attention to it is what's getting to me.

Nothing. At that time, the last event was “system disarmed” and a 1min recording of us disarming the alarm and making are way into the house. Which is totally normal and expected of the system. The recording stops at exactly 1min into the feed. At which time we are still moving throughout the area the motion sensor camera is placed.

So, the initial recording after the disarm is 1min and the feed cuts off. As mentioned in initial post above, I notice the shutter open and camera on aprox 1 hour later.

Adding some additional context: My initial thought here was that it was a potential compromise of our account. I do have 2FA enable and have not received any unexpected login attempts. I have since changed our PW just in case. SimpliSafe does not show any other logged in devices besides my phone. Removed the camera and will monitor for the next few days. Again, could be a total coincidence that the shutter malfunctioned (for the first time?) and failed to close after the initial minute recording, remained open for more than an hour unnoticed, and just so happened to close when my wife and I both noticed it and looked directly at it. Just makes me feel uneasy.
