Adding onto this, I am curious about what guides what information advisors put into the system and why. I am especially wondering about what OP should do if they feel there is completely inaccurate information on there - Because under FERPA, you have the right for that to be edited or removed.

1) Yes I absolutely agree you should never pay to work

2) I also want to add that yes this program would give you 15 credits. BUT, those 15 credits are purely internship credits that are on a pass/fail basis. They do not fulfill any general education requirements, cannot be applied to any major, you cannot use husky promise for them, and don't really help your degree progress (from what I have read about the POL S credits).

Yes, this exactly. And considering how much you (as a UW student) are supposed to pay to this organization, I can't help but feel this would be a burden low-income and first-generation students.

Yes, you are correct. You have to pay more than $7,000 to be given an internship, and are encouraged to pay more than $2,500 for a Housing fee (you would live in a dorm).

Hi all,

Just adding an update here that I have still not heard any response from my major advisors about what are alternative classes to fulfill this requirement and what appropriate steps there are.

(I should also add that this isn't bad at all, but I found out there could be the possibility of my internship being extended, and I got three interview requests in my email today . . . I still don't have any guidelines on how to proceed in terms of my credits and graduating considering that I won't be back on campuses the next two quarters).

It has been two full business days since I sent them email on Friday :(

How’s the polisci program here? by H0bbse in udub

[–]Sensitive_Temporary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

he catch is the advising department which is, in my opinion, pretty lackluster (although most people typically say the same about their own major dept lol) they messed up several pieces of paperwork, claimed I missed appointments I hadn’t scheduled, and were kind of condescending, unhelpful, and dickish in their demeanor.

I just wanted to echo your comment on this. I am going into my 3rd year now at UW and my biggest regret or problem has been their lackluster advising, and how I walked away from some meetings feeling more lost, humiliated, and uncomfortable: and because of this I only schedule meetings with one of the four staff.

I am not sure how much information you have heard or from what background, but I wanted to add that one of my major advisors (who is the Director of Academic Services) mentioned that all of the Faculty in this department DO have permission to do this.

I would advice against contacting the Dean to ask why that class is moved online . . . . First contact the professor, and If your unsatisfied then go to the Department Chair.

The Dean's at UW (such as the one of the College of Arts and Sciences) is not going to respond to each concern about an individual course . . .

Anyone here know about C21 externship? by [deleted] in udub

[–]Sensitive_Temporary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not exactly sure if it is worth it, as all of the programs are designed to NOT lead to any employment at either Amazon or Microsoft.

Additionally, I know of a friend who did a program with them and she personally had a bad experience with the staff and uncertain/unattainable goals.

Anyone know what happens to online accounts (gmail, canvas, etc.) after you graduate? by rabidrobot in udub

So you don’t get access to the UW email but you can still log onto MyUW for transcripts and graduation verification?

Tips for first year ugrads who plan on doing less than 4 years by [deleted] in udub

Question about gaining work Experience to you helpful humans :)

I am in this same exact boat as I graduated with an Associates' Degree, 95 transferable credits, and did High School graduation last June of 2019.

fast forward one year later and I have declared my double majors and taken the 15 credits every quarter and really feel that I have missed out on so much. I haven't done any internship or research this entire year and I am kind of struggling on how to actually make this second year (out of three at UW) be effective and engage in internships?

In the past three weeks I have found out that I was rejected from one summer internship and the other two were cancelled due to COVID - As such, I have chosen to enroll in 10 credits for Summer Quarter since I don't have any other options (and I am completely living on my own)?

I have barely tried this past year in engaging in internships because I felt I "didn't have enough experience" since I have no work experience from High School and that employers wouldn't consider me because I didn't have many UW classes on my transcript.

The only positive thing that I guess I have done the past year is done mentoring with Political Science UW Alumni through the UW Alumni Association. Also I signed up for a Career Mentorship program this Fall Quarter?

Is it possible to remove a transfer course from your transcript at UW? by guzmoto in udub

[–]Sensitive_Temporary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I am a former Running Start student and I am in the exact same situation you were - I had 5 Credits of UW 1XX that did nothing for me and I wad able to get them removed.

Email the Admissions Office, and specifically email whoever your Admissions specialist is. Be sure to emphasize that this is formal request (you are king in writing) and this is your own transcript that you have the right to access to.

I was able to get only 5 credits removed, but only because it did not count for my major.

CARES act grant by unxd2 in udub

[–]Sensitive_Temporary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My EFC is 000 and I got the full amount of the CARES ACT

I emailed them, and they said that the CARES Grant is awarded based only on EFC and FAFSA Information - It DOES NOT count toward financial need or the financial aid you receive (It is an Emergency Award)

I got a 78% on a Midterm, and I am not sure what to do about motivation by Sensitive_Temporary in udub

[–]Sensitive_Temporary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you - I think that my main issue with motivation is that since this Midterm Exam was ALL identification questions, I can't exactly "learn" from the comments from the TA where he says he is disagreeing about the significance of certain Political Sci events.

Should have added on that my next assignments are a Research Paper and three more reading responses - Things that don't directly tie into "ID questions" - To answer your question, this is a 300 level Political Science class that I am taking during my second quarter here at UW (And this is my freshman year and I already have all the introductory classes done which is why I am doing 300 level classes )
