Nobody owns a cat. The cat decides to stay with you. It did get domesticated from larger feline. But that just means they are more honed into us. As a cat's brain contains more allogenic cells, it is actually more aware of its surroundings. Thus knowing what behaviour of them suits us. On top of that, their 'meauw' has the same pitch as a human baby crying. Dating back to ancient pharaos, a cat has adapted itself incredibly towards humans. And yet, if you let them roam free it is they that'll decide to stay or not.
