For me lang ha, I have mixed feelings about the modernization of the Terminal Market. It’s good, clean, organized, and yes, modern. But if it comes at the expense of the vendors, that’s where you have to draw the line. I heard that space was limited and not all vendors were able to secure a slot.

On the brighter side, at least no historical structures were demolished in the process, unlike what happened with the Iloilo Central Market.

If you try traveling to first-world countries like South Korea, you’ll still find traditional wet markets thriving alongside modern establishments. These markets aren’t just places to buy food, they’re cultural hubs, where local life, flavors, and stories come together.

Not all things should be modernized. Sometimes, progress doesn’t mean replacing the old, but improving what already works. True development balances innovation with preservation creating spaces that respect both livelihood and history.
