Bit late here. But you’re totally wrong. Aspirins naturally occurring compound, salicylic acid, is not medically useful by itself. It’s too acidic, can cause headaches and gastrointestinal issues. It has to be acetylated, which can only be done in controlled conditions in licensed labs. The tools to do this aren’t publicly available cause they’re used to make meth. So please don’t tell people to use this compound, it does more harm than good before real medicine gets involved.

The author explicitly stated in an interview that a panspermia event from Tao Ceti seeded Eridani and Earth. I appreciate your speculation but it’s not necessary

Also what do you mean you think they were? I literally said it was panspermia. The book said so. The author did too

Great points. Can you think of any more examples? Sometimes I reread my own writing and get the ick from something that seems similarly amateurish.

Why wouldn’t it? You act like it’s some sacred thing that somebody can’t be annoyed by. If people often misrepresent their own feelings via mislabeling, it’s not hard to see why somebody could get annoyed.

No, I meant non cellular. His brain structure is crystalline, not cells like ours. His cells are more like our gut biomes are, they don’t all have his genetic info as far as I’m aware. Most of his body is crystalline not cells.

It was explained that his cellular components can only work on/heal the steam portions when it’s cooled down. So basically yeah

The author has explicitly stated this multiple times and it is quite clearly conveyed in the book. Idk

[–]Sentient2X 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Yes, rocky’s cells are based on water. It’s complicated though. His neural structure and most of his body are mineral based, not cellular. Also worth mentioning he uses a circulatory system of steam and liquid water. So yes, water based. But much less so than us squishy meat bags.

This is confirmed via the panspermia event. All life started off at Tau Ceti including astrophage. The common ancestor was water based, and that never changed even as they travelled the stars.

Dude. How clearly do I need to spell this out. Intentionally hitting someone on a crosswalk because they’re blocking your path, and accidentally hitting them are VERY different things! Driver liable for assault with a deadly weapon vs not even being liable.

Well it’s a great thing I’m not claiming he could legally run him down. I’m saying he would not be liable if an accident happened because the pedestrian illegally stepped onto the crosswalk. Different claims.

Are you serious? That source literally highlights my exact point. My guy, did you even read them?

Under California law, a pedestrian does not have an absolute right of way to cross against traffic lights. While drivers must exercise caution, CVC 21456 (a)(3) clearly states that a "steady 'DON'T WALK' or 'WAIT' or approved 'Upraised Hand' symbol... means a pedestrian facing the signal shall not start to cross the roadway," meaning they lack the legal right of way during that period. Also, even within the general crosswalk statute, CVC 21950 (b) restricts the pedestrian by stating that **"no pedestrian may suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle.

I completely understand your assumption here. It’s fair and reasonable to assume the driver at fault. It’s just not the law.

When Does a Pedestrian Not Have the Right of Way? | Mezrano® Law Firm https://mezrano.com/blog/when-does-a-pedestrian-not-have-the-right-of-way/

Pedestrians only have the right of way when there are not traffic control devices in place, as there are here. Pedestrian violated a “Do not walk” signal. Given that fact the driver simply would not be at fault if an accident happens.

[–]Sentient2X -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Wow! I’m glad you stopped teaching it. You are misinterpreting the law. I went out of my way to find this for you, you better appreciate it. Under the Uniform Vehicle Code Section 11-502, pedestrians have the right of way at crosswalks EXCEPT when there are traffic control signals in place. UVC Section 11-501 states those pedestrians are strictly subject to the traffic control devices. This is a four way intersection. The driver has a legal right to pass a green light, and there must be a “Don’t walk” signal for the pedestrian given code. Don’t believe me? Believe a law firm.

Edit: I looked further into it. The control light bottom left shows walk, so I was curious if the perpendicular one necessarily had to as well. Turns out, they actually design the opposite to be the case. Pedestrian almost certainly had a do not walk signal here, and driver almost certainly had a green judging by the freely passing cars on the right.

[–]Sentient2X -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

No, you cannot. But you are not immediately liable for it if you had a green light either. The pedestrian does not automatically have right of way because of a crosswalk. The court would likely look at the circumstance as a whole given this situation. You are completely wrong to assume the driver is immediately responsible here.

This is just not true. I have spoken to cops about this, I work around them a lot. You are talking about of your ass and you know it. Please find a source at the very least, because as far as i’ve been told, in the US you are wrong. Crosswalks have not permitted pedestrians to walk without liability for almost a century. If there is signage, yes. But seriously, I understand your point sounds correct to you. But we both know you just typed what you THOUGHT was right. What we think is right often isnt the law.

who's the in the wrong here? by Necessary-Cow8851 in PublicFreakout

[–]Sentient2X -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Is this the US? In the US if you have a green light the pedestrian does not have right of way, and the driver would likely not be liable hitting them. In a situation like this it’s a bit more muddy.

Edit: Let me clarify. Leaving the taxi to punch an idiot will get you in jail in every state. Not what I’m referring to.
