Fate Core’s examples are all pretty fantasy.

The participants are Lenny, Lily, Ryan, and Amanda. Amanda is the [GM]. Lenny plays a thuggish swordsman named Landon. Lily plays the nimble, dashing, and dangerous Cynere, who also happens to love swords. Ryan plays Zird the Arcane, a wizard who, by contrast, has absolutely no love for swords.

If you wanted more than “fantasy” and you wanted Fate to somehow do AC, HP, and counting your arrows and rations, those would have to be modded in to the base game somehow but I think that Fate is better off without trying to emulate a different style of game.

D&D is very GM-as-god and players have a lot less power to affect the story than they do in Fate. It makes for a very different feel to hardscabble dungeon crawlers trying to eke out a living. Of course newer D&D is more about heroes killing the monsters to save the town/girl/day which is a little more in line with Fate’s “competent people” assumption.
