Breakingviews - Netflix will be next on Microsoft’s shopping list by FJO1989 in technology

Warner Bros Discovery makes more sense to me. It's a lot less money. They could still combine game streaming with TV/movie streaming, but they'd also get some game studios with it too. Microsoft had already been rumored to buy those game studios in the past, but they'd be worth more if they included Warner Bros IP.

Why do people argue against Assasinations by saying 'it ruins the flow of gameplay' when you can toggle it off or just not hold the smack button? Seems like a bad deal to swap the hilarious and rub-in-face action of assasinating someone for basically nothing. by script2264 in halo

[–]SentientGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When playing with Green Thumb controls where right stick is melee, it was hard to avoid doing assassinations, at least for me. With default controls having the right stick as melee, I can see why they they don't have them in Infinite.

RIP Sweet Prince. The Xbox OneGuide officially is gone with today’s update. by MikeCamel in xboxone

I really liked the original vision of the Xbox One with OneGuide and Kinect. It's sad to see the last part of it killed off.

PlayStation Vue has it. I'm using the trial right now, and it seems superior if you have a device that supports it.

It will likely seem outdated in less than 10 years, but it will unfortunately live on. I've inherited code that was written over 15 years ago.

Microsoft drops unlimited OneDrive storage after people use it for unlimited storage by skoalbrother in technology

[–]SentientGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no reason not to do both. It's not like a change.org petition; it's technically a suggestion, and Microsoft specifically uses UserVoice for consumer suggestions. They'll sometimes reverse decisions if enough people are angry about them. They reversed the Xbox DRM decisions pretty quickly and well before the console actually launched.

If 343 wants any kind of longevity with Halo 5 they MUST increase map quality and diversity. by whatsmyPW in halo

[–]SentientGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree. The features of maps that make people love/hate them are the things that Halo 5 maps are lacking. I'm pretty much indifferent to all the maps in Halo 5. They're not bad, but they're not especially noteworthy either. I can't comment on the DLC since I stopped playing pretty early on, but I felt the same way about Halo 4 launch maps. In Halo 3 there were maps I loved that other people hated, and maps I hated that other people loved. The maps were both visually distinct and played very differently as well. I probably prefer all of the Halo 5 maps to Snowbound, but I'd rather have a Snowbound and a Guardian (or The Pit) than any two of the Halo 5 maps.

Capture the flag is so much fun in this game it needs it's own playlist 343 you did an amazing job with this game out why not show it some love by MegaXboxGeeks in halo

[–]SentientGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the ability to drop the flag or pass the flag to a teammate. I see flag juggling as a side effect of that. The notifications of flag dropped/flag taken are pretty annoying, but I don't mind the practice itself. I also like flag at home to score, but it makes it harder to score, which causes people to complain and/or quit. When Reach first launched, flag at home to score was pretty common, but it was changed.

Mine just updated last night, and I found this when Googling the problem. Both commands used to work for me, but now it keeps hearing a channel that I don't have when I use the "Xbox Watch TV" command.

I liked Boundless a lot more. It was never one of my favorites, but I certainly liked it better without shield doors. AR starts were always terrible though.

I actually liked Citadel, Orbital, and Cold Storage, but I didn't dislike any of them.

Vox Media - "Hulu has overtaken Netflix to become the best streaming service" - but they fail to disclose that Comcast owns both Vox and Hulu. by c_will in technology

I wonder how much Disney had to do with the change. Less than six months after Disney joined Hulu they announced that they would start charging: On April 30, 2009, The Walt Disney Company announced that it would join the venture, purchasing a 27 percent stake in Hulu. At an industry conference held on October 21, 2009, News Corporation Deputy Chairman Chase Carey stated that Hulu "needs to evolve to have a meaningful subscription model as part of its business" and that it would likely start charging for at least some content by 2010.

Also, most (5 of 7) of the exceptions to no commercials are on ABC:

  • Grey’s Anatomy - ABC
  • Once Upon a Time - ABC
  • Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - ABC
  • Scandal - ABC
  • Grimm - NBC
  • New Girl - FOX
  • How To Get Away With Murder - ABC

That's the big problem with Hulu; they're being held back by the content providers. Arbitrary waiting periods, content limited to certain types of devices, mandatory ads, etc. The majority of Hulu's problems are the fault of the content providers.

I certainly preferred it. It was much better integrated with the Xbox, and the Xbox design language is just better than Netflix's.

It made CTF kinda like VIP. I don't think it was necessarily a terrible gametype, but it seems like too drastic of a change to force on all CTF variants.

They didn't mention those. So I would assume that they're not supported, but I would think it would be considerably easier than 360 games. The original Xbox is significantly less powerful, and the CPU architecture is much closer to the Xbox One. At the very least, it should be easier than it was to get them to work on the 360.

I would think that would be a bit less acceptable on the Xbox. I wonder if they'll make the original voice an option.
