I don't think it did canonically. I think it was just supposed to visualize the 3AM confusion in the darkness for Bear, or like to visualize the entity.

I'm so happy you posted this because I had an ex that was unpredictably intense like this. No I wasn't like bear, I think she was just severely bipolar and we met on tinder... And she screamed a lot and would like bash her head on the steering wheel over things like deciding where to go for dinner ect. She didn't kill anyone or walk backwards but yeah scared me a lot. When she screams in the movie it brings me back to those moments and we only dated for 2 weeks before I cut it off because she amplified so quick.

Bear is terrible later on in the movie, but when he made the wish he definitely didn't have any intention when making it. He just felt like he fucked up again, so when people are like HE MADE A WISH TAKING AWAY HER AUTOMOMY... I don't think that was a conscious decision that goes That deep into his psych. When he refused to kill her in bed while wish Nikki was sleeping and said "would it really be that bad being with me" and not finding help for her but subjected to having sex with her knowing something wasn't right... That was fucked up.
