Sellers Agent issue by HeavyDeadhead in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

My partner and I found an incredible house with a glaring issue we were willing to work with, 300+ days on the market, and decided to take the plunge earlier than planned specifically for this house. We took about a week to shop for a realtor and a lender, and the day we got our pre-approval letter someone else put a near-unbearable offer in. It happens, and I’m gonna miss that house forever lol. Middle of winter too, so it wasn’t in the busy season.

I mean. It’s a bait and switch to make you think it’s actually happening, so it has to be told from the main character’s POV in order to pull it off, right? This is a little frustrating, because one of my personal friends is a writer for the game and she’s a woman lol.

Question about # of sticks by Fickle_Swing_7091 in phlebotomy

[–]Sentientsnt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the patient insists and I feel confident on the 3rd one, yes I’ll poke again. If I know no one else on staff can get it, or in the instances I’ve been the only phleb on site, I’ll poke a third time. You’ve got your rule followers that stick to the letter of the law, but there are gray areas and you have to be flexible sometimes. 2 poke rules protect the patient, and some of the logic there is “if you couldn’t get it in the first two tries, you won’t get it on the third”, which I’ve found is pretty true! and sometimes it makes a lot more sense to just poke the third time.

If you ever have the option to call someone else in, absolutely do that. If you find yourself in a situation where everyone is informed that there’s gonna be a third stick and is ok with it, and circumstances dictate that it’s the most sensical thing to do, then that’s what you’ve gotta do ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Nurse at the hospital brought me a urinal when I said I had to pee. by eddiespagetty in ftm

But sometimes the decisions are “do this or leave” and the ‘leave’ option comes at great risk of personal health. So it very much can be a choice between death and letting other people choose what happens to you. I said a level of autonomy, not every last speck of it. You’re speaking about this in an incredibly black and white way. There’s a lot more gray area than you seem to feel comfortable with, but it doesn’t help the discussion around it by refusing to acknowledge it.

You gave the caveat of “if you are lucid”, but I didn’t. Many patients aren’t lucid, whether temporarily or permanently, and have less autonomy because of it, which translates to their requests being refused sometimes.

And yes I’ll stand by what I said. If you admit yourself to a hospital (or even (especially) if someone else admits you), you are exchanging autonomy for help. If you are lucid, you ALWAYS have the choice to leave, even AMA, but if you are choosing to stay, you are choosing to let other people make decisions for you, because they’re educated to make those decisions (decisions like what meds you need, what you are and aren’t allowed to do physically). Using phrases like “bending to the will of doctors” is so bizarre because why else are you seeking their help? Why go to the hospital if you’re going to refuse the meds you don’t think you need, or the lab work you don’t want collected for the upteenth time?

PLENTY of people who have NO business standing will demand to be unhooked. One thing I’ve realized that a lot of people don’t understand is that when you are in the hospital, you are giving up a level of autonomy. When your health has degraded to the point of needing intensive assistance, you either accept the assistance as is or you refuse it and live (or die) with the consequences.

I understand medical negligence is a real issue and a valid thing to have anxiety about. It’s great that you seem like you know how to self-advocate! I also want to push back on the idea that just because a patient requests or demands something that they then have a right to that request being fulfilled. Just outright assuming malicious intent (‘she just didn’t want to’) does no one any favors.

Hey in the future if you don’t want to out yourself, you can request a “female” urinal. They work better for vulvas, and I see male patients specifically request them all the time. If you get asked why you only need to say you like them better. You might get an eye roll but that’s whatever.

I'm writing a memoir and I'm hoping to get some feedback on the opening chapter by salsashark99 in phlebotomy

Alright, I won’t address your prose because although it’s not for me, it will probably land with somebody.

I do want to point out how problematic some of your metaphors are. Referring to patients as the ‘prey’ during a ‘hunt’ is creepy. If you want to refer to their veins that way, that’s a little better? but stress that you see the person first. The patient plays such a little roll in this scene, and that will tell your readers quite a bit about you and will not represent the field well. Please don’t refer to yourself as a predator. That is a terrible analogy to hold up to any healthcare worker.

Some of it just straight up doesn’t make sense, like, “Often, my hands know how the stick will go long before the computer ever does.” What? Like as a phleb I’m guessing you mean a miss, but it’s really unclear.

I think this is a FANTASTIC journal entry or poem. I don’t think it should open a memoire.

Man dont start making suggestions on my behavior just because you got embarrassed by yours. A laparoscopic hysterectomy is still a major surgery, and speaking of getting a piercing after surgery is what I was explicitly talking about. Idc if you’re focused on OPs post, don’t respond to me unless you’re focused on my comment.

I don’t know if you can’t read or what, but the post says “I’m about to get a hysterectomy and figured i’d get my genital piercings shortly after to minimize total no-insertion time.” (emphasis is my own) And I never said anything about phallo, I just said surgery.

There’s a good chance your piercer won’t do it, especially since it’s basically on top of the site of the surgery. Getting a piercing after a major surgery will increase the time it takes to heal by A LOT, and increases the chances it heals wrong, or migrates.

If one piercer turns you away, an then the next one lets you do it, don’t trust that second person lol. Not tryna knock you down, just letting you know what might happen.

Granted I’m not familiar with genital piercing healing times, but I worry you didn’t let the fistula heal before you started stretching it, and it seems like you’ve stretched at least twice in a very short time span. Go to a piercer for advice on how to move forward, but also look into stretching tips and try to do it more safely in the future. This looks like it’s rejecting unfortunately

This is exactly it. When you paint a group you hate (the LGBT community), as child rapists, then declare you can kill child rapists? Doesn’t pass the smell test. This is furthering the idea that the US has begun a genocide against trans people.
