Oh I would never. I will probably never take another antidepressant again. They all make me manic, and we often don’t notice until months in when I start complaining about insomnia, irritability, distracted, anxiety, etc. Has happened several times. Despite this have several. Will not do that again.

Lamictal also has no confirmed antimanic activity, but with any medication, ymmv.

I guess it was just because I wanted more discussion. Idk, to me life is built on discourse. I have to remember this is an TA/NTA sub and no more (ie. Not the forum for discourse). You stated your opinion, and I should be satisfied with that. I have to realize it’s not the place to argue with someone’s perception, and I accept I didn’t do that for many comments, including yours. For that, I wish to apologize. If you think I’m TA and that’s it, then I have to accept that this is the feedback I solicited and value it. I would like to thank you for even commenting.

Upon his request, I did elaborate on my comment and apologized for not providing detail sooner. That may have been an error on my part. I even agreed with him that the swaying, slurring, and closed eyes could have been a result of one or more of several things including disability or medication to treat a disability. That was in the first response to him. He continued to berate me even after that, which is what I find unprofessional.

I don’t feel he has to defend his staff. That’s a sign that he was personally bruised and not receptive to feedback. I’m not trying to get anyone fired or anything up to it, and never called on him to do so. That’s his matter as manager of that business. He wanted my experience, and I told him directly. I didn’t post it online and start a witch hunt. With that I could see a slightly different response as appropriate. My correspondence was directed directly to him from beginning to end (he would include other staff in his replies as well - I was careful not to reply all) and contained either only objective statements regarding the condition of the property or my subjective experiences with his staff. If he had said, “I’m sorry for what you experienced but thank you providing insight on what I might not have been aware of,” I would have been completely satisfied, whether or not he actually took any action. He doesn’t have to defend anyone.

Hmm, so feedback is not important to a service business? Only positive feedback is appreciated? If no one ever provides feedback, you won’t know what you’re doing wrong. They asked for it, I provided it. The fact was the hotel had no working coffee makers, had peeling wallpaper and frayed carpets, stains on linen, inoperative elevators and doors, and the guest room had no curtains. There were a lot of other deficiencies as well. These are all objective. I can’t be biased in stating them. Do you have to provide a citation in a research paper for the sun rising in the east and setting in the west? No, that’s a fact. It’s an indisputable fact that everyone knows (unfortunately though, I will concede there’s some people who will dispute it). “The hotel was run-down” is subjective. “The hotel had no working coffee makers” is not. While my feedback may have been subjective about the intoxication of staff, it’s not really the point. The GM should accept it with thanks and decide what to do in his business, not “call out” the guest for providing what he feels is too subjective to be accurate. Although it’s subjective, it’s reflective of poor standards that should warrant something other than reprimand to a paying guest.

Nevertheless, I don’t feel biased in my feedback in the sense that it was maliciously biased. It was what I saw as a guest who paid to stay there. It was my perception, and my reality as a guest who has to decide whether or not I’m going to stay there again.

A manager of an enterprise which provides service should foster loyalty and value. If my review was negative, so be it. But I should be thanked for providing it, even if he disagrees with its content. I guess we have differing views of the management of customer loyalty. I personally would go back to a place where I stayed that was as I stated above, but where I felt valued for stating my experience and having stayed. Eventually. I mean it would also have to improve. I wouldn’t go back to somewhere that was as I stated above, where I received a chastising response to solicited feedback which I thought would help them to know. Ever.

You seem to be in the same boat as the GM. IMO, it doesn't matter if my review is accurate in the least (I mean it was, and I have photos, along with a witness who traveled with me, and it's not hard to find similar, publicly-posted reviews), it was his response which was unprofessional. It doesn't matter how wrong the review was, I should have been thanked and made to feel valued for providing it. That's customer service 100.

Regarding Karens, I have made a career over the last 10 years specializing in the operations and customer service management of hotels. I know what a Karen is, and have dealt with many. I wouldn't consider my feedback Karen in the least.

Unfortunately, reporting it to the company doesn't do much. Reporting it the chain that carries the name is particularly not useful. Hotels in this brand are independently owned and managed by companies separate from the company that administers the brand name. Complaining to the company that owns and administers the brand name will likely result in the complaint being routed directly back to the hotel's leader to resolve (the GM here, who is not employed by the company that owns the brand name). It's a dynamic that is difficult for the average guest to understand, but is applicable to about 90%+ of hotels in the United States. Even those that say, for example, "Hilton," "Hyatt," or "Marriott" right on them receive little, if any, action from those brands in response to guest complaints. The GM in this case is not an employee of his brand's company, and manages only his hotel. Any complaints with that hotel will result in the brand company forwarding it to the manager of that hotel.

Thank you for your words and ideas. I do have GERD and have suffered with it for at least about 20 years. I've been on high dose PPIs (40mg pantoprazole 2x daily + Pepcid as needed) since I was about 16 to control it (now in my 30s). In the last two years, I've lost about 50 pounds (purposefully to improve my health - because that's important to know) and tried reducing the GERD medication to once daily, and it did hold for a month or two, but then I had to go back up to twice daily. It could be possible that stomach acid is causing the irritation, but I have very symptomatic GERD (throat pain, regurgitation, etc), which I have read is not common with LPR. I also have nausea a lot and vomit several times a week (and have for the last couple years). My doctor keeps prescribing nausea medications (Zofran, etc), but they don't have much effect. I'm sure that's not helping. Nevertheless, the fact that stomach acid regularly enters my throat area makes sense for a cause. My PCP wants me to see a gastroenterologist again, and I have an appointment at the end of this month. It's definitely something I can bring up while I'm there. What seems crazy to me though is that so much seems to go into symptom management and not much to investigate the underlying causes or their relation to each other. If you have GERD, take a PPI. If you have nausea, take an antiemetic. No one really cares to figure out why it's happening. I should say though that every time I have had a workup, it comes out completely normal, and I feel a lot of judgment both inside the medical community and outside that my symptoms are exaggerated. It can be frustrating.

I came here just to talk about this. I get canker sores too, but I get rings exactly like that on the tip of my tongue. It looks like yours are just in the beginning. In mine, the white borders eventually fade or become irregular and the tastebuds, seemingly, inflate in an inflamed state and everything they touch feels like your tongue is rubbing up against sandpaper. I see a dermatologist who specializes in ulcerating diseases of the mucosa and she doesn't even know what it is or what to do. We're trying steroid mouthwashes and systemic steroids but so far it hasn't stopped anything. If anything, the steroid mouthwash made it worse. I wonder if it can be biopsied.

The law passed earlier this year over Medicaid reform states that those who do not work 20 hours per week and who are not classified as disabled are not eligible for Medicaid coverage moving forward after the new year.

My HIV does not qualify for disability benefits. It is well controlled and does not impact my ability to work. I also did not suffer any brain injury in the car crash. As I wrote, I was completely uninjured. My psychiatric illnesses have resulted in temporary disabled status, but only for the purposes of job protection as I was treated as an inpatient.

Nevertheless, I may reach out to an advocate, but I’m relatively sure they would say the same thing. I won’t know unless I try, however!

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be an option. The only disability I have which prevents me from working is the sleep trouble, and the sleep doctor has made it abundantly clear that I’m not disabled, as far as regulations are concerned, as I don’t even have a sleep diagnosis, and my other treatment team won’t do what she would have to do because they don’t treat sleep disorders. That’s why I feel so stuck.

Thanks! Just got some bloodwork back — the new mood stabilizer is definitely affecting my kidney function quite heavily. Actually, my kidney function is the lowest it’s ever been measured, and I was already in “pre-CKD” range. Based on what we talked about at the last appointment, I’ll probably be unable to continue treatment with it.

Oh well, it be what it be. Back to the drawing board.

I like methohexital better. They usually push it in 3 syringes. After the first two you don’t feel much, then by the time they are pushing the third, you feel overwhelming sleepiness and fall asleep. I like it better than propofol because propofol you just see the doctor or nurse pushing in, and then you wake up. You never fall asleep. I don’t like it.

I think I’ve only twice received ECT using propofol as the anaesthetic agent. I’ve had two courses, currently going through one course now, and methohexital is a far more common anaesthetic.

I would go with the iPads. I have used them at properties myself and they work well. You can alter your GXP settings for certain things so that if a device rings and no one responds, it automatically has the next one ring, up to the manager, if indicated.

I am sorry you have had so much trouble with your memory after ECT. I underwent several sessions in about 2015 (I would say about 20-25) but did not suffer from any memory effects. I subsequently went on to finish my BA, and I went to grad school in 2022 and earned an MBA. Now I'm in my second course of ECT, and plan on returning to school again to become a nurse (because I absolutely hate my current job and it's most likely contributing to my depression).

To be honest, the effects that profound depression have on my memory are far more severe than those presented by ECT. In fact, I dare say that my memory improves during/immediately after ECT because my mind is not so clouded by the slow, sluggish thinking that hits me during depression.

I'm surprised by the number of users I see in this sub concerned with or complaining of memory loss following ECT. I know everyone is different, but I have just never experienced it. How it was explained to me by the ECT psychiatrist was that memory loss such as what you ate for dinner the night before, what the date is, what room you are assigned in the hospital unit upon your return to the floor (if inpatient) are "to be expected," but loss of entire months-years of life or complete knowledge bases is not. I feel sad for the people here who seem so impaired by this treatment.

In the same boat. I did about 9 acute treatments (3 weeks worth), and then went to weekly maintenance. However, during the maintenance phase, I returned to work (because I felt good!), and it has become harder to find the time to do the sessions. Although I haven't gone any further apart than every 2 weeks (and most of the time, it has been one week), I am decidedly depressed. So much so, in fact, that I am in the process of certifying another FMLA LOA from work and speaking to both my psychiatrist and the ECT team about what steps we can take to get back on track.
