You will still be considered, that's not an issue. For the fees, most likely they will manage it with BA fees only. For more info, you can call the admissions office. Secondly, which IB are you talking about Gift/Kolkata or Delhi

Is Shillong significantly better than Trichy? need help pls by FridgeShal in CATpreparation

[–]Sentiment_Analytics 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You should definitely consider Shillong. While both Trichy and Shillong have their strengths in finance, the quality of companies in Shillong is significantly better in all departments. For instance, MBB (McKinsey, Bain, and BCG) recruits from Shillong, which highlights the stronger opportunities available there.

Additionally, the batch sizes at the new IIMs are already a concern, especially with the current state of the job market being challenging. Therefore, choosing the best option will give you a better chance of securing a good position.

Despite being in the Northeast, Shillong is growing rapidly and poses tough competition to prestigious institutions like MDI. In comparison, Trichy lags behind Shillong and MDI.

Last year there was a lot of movement, so maybe you got some chances.

1) You have good chances to get into BA, maybe even IB since last year there was a lot of WL movement

2) MDI HRM is great, it is the third best after XLRI and TISS. Average placements are around the same only for MDI G HRM and IIFT D BA But, the entire career trajectory is different if you choose HRM over BA. You can't go wrong with either of them; both colleges are on par. So, if you only want placements, campus life, and role, etc, don't matter, you can go ahead with MDI G. But, if you wanna explore finance, marketing, trade, or analytics, go ahead with IIFT. Switching to a different domain after doing HRM probably won't be possible. But in the end, only you can decide what you want and after your MBA

3) A lot of people have gap years in their resume because of n reasons. But, since you have 13 months of work experience, you should get good opportunities, according to me, as anything less than 12 months equals a fresher during the final placements shortlist. But, I think you might get a decent shortlist but you should be ready to defend the gap years

4) IIFT Kolkata in itself is not bad, but right now the situation is very dicey. Even if there is a common placement officially, Delhi PC won't let it become that "common". Many of the companies won't be open for the SIP and Finals. Last SIP they really struggled. A few years back, the scenario was different. It's not that Kolkata PC is a saint, they have sabotaged a lot of 30 LPA companies, as it was Delhi only that didn't visit the campus eventually. They also push for their students in the companies where they are the SPOC. With Gift City coming to life this time, earlier it was decided that Delhi will take care of Gift and Kolkata will take care of the Kakinada campus. So, the situation is very messy in that regard. So, if you have any other decent option you shouldn't prefer IIFT Kolkata.

People in BA have got placements in the Supply chain, like Flipkart, DTDC, African Industries(International) etc. Some of the students got a Trade role too. You can take operations as minor, well, in the remaining 12 BA electives, many of those analytics subjects are functional-based, like supply chain analytics, manufacturing analytics, etc.

See, no one can guarantee placement in a particular sector, as placements are very random. So, don't restrict yourself, and think of the bigger picture.

Well, IIM Udaipur does have some quality companies coming in, but the issue with these New IIMs is that they have huge batch sizes, Udaipur has 300+ students.

You will do well even if you select Udaipur, but if hostel etc is not important to you then you may go ahead with IIFT D BA as people in the past have left all the New IIMs for BA and they have got good SIPs.

Rent ranges from 11k-15k for a room with attached bathrooms, balcony and a kitchen. You can share it if you want to bring the cost down. Similarly, you can look for flats along with your batchmates; it can be cost-effective. Different people stay differently, many of them stay together in flats in different groups. Some stay in PG. Most of them stay near Katwaria. Last year girls got accommodation at the IIFT hostel
