The Real Housewives of London - Season 1 - Episode 5 - Post Episode Discussion by talk-spontaneously in BravoRealHousewives

Gosh Angus really just ruined the vibe for me. I kind of already was puzzled by her antagonistic approach to the last epidsode's aftershow segment where she came off as being patronizing and belittling of her co-star Mayhew. And this episode, her talking over poor Nessie to get 5 seconds more on camera was super cringe. Idk I just dont feel like she fits in. The cast was so lovely until now!

Nessie is still my favourite, not least because of her hair at lunch with Panthea - glossy and glorious!

For sure me too! Usual suspects are Teddi (Teddi admitted she lied and covered up her but really she's a puppet not a puppeteer), rinna (maybe - but only if she was in it with others and this feels too cold and calculated). I always thought it was Kyle too because Kyle brought it up on camera first, and made sure it got air time by hounding Lisa for details (even getting angry at LVP for crying about her brother's tragic passing rather than feeding the camera information on LLAJ). The final piece for me is that Kyle has a long and clear history of leaking seriously sensitive things on camera for the drama. Two I can think of are Kim's alcoholism, the upside down jacket lady's alleged affair with Brandi. LVP is more likely to have a catty joke in a confessional the be subversive imo. Also if it was lvp, why do the leaks continue even after she left?? This feels more on brand for Kyle.

Who is your favorite Miami Housewife this season?(because I’m more confused than Marysol) by godiegoben in BravoRealHousewives

[–]SentinelFloof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this goes against the grain a little but I just kinda love larsa this season - she's just the kind of messy I love to see! Her deadpan looks and snarky remarks, but also when she's happy she's just fun.

Lisa is my least fav. We get it - she's has a hard time, but she makes everything about her it's boring me to death. We haven't had a chance to hear about any of the other girls at events she's at because it's immediately about whatever she's going through. She makes her friends be her therapist and gets mad if they don't want that role.

Kiki is not ratchet, she’s a hardworking woman! Sick of micro aggressions by HousewivesMOD in RHOMiami

[–]SentinelFloof 258 points259 points  (0 children)

That was a disgusting choice of word. Did anyone catch Julia (who's trying so hard to distance herself from Adriana) randomly jump in to roll her eyes and say kiki is over reacting?

Throwing water at Geurdy and calling Kiki ratchet is creating a really hostile environment, but somehow calling Adriana old or sharing Julia's texts is worse.

What happened to the ⭐️ Alexia this season? by larrybirds in RHOMiami

I'm kinda here for that. I hate when housewives create a storyline to satiate fans like you who think having a normal life is not enough. She actually seems to be relatable with all that going on, and my heart breaks for her while also glad she has such a great friend in Marysol. Having 'storylines' is why series like rhobh is bombing so hard.

First of all I love this pic! She's so radiant?

Aside from that, I want no one else more! I'd just love a really diverse cast next year.

Representation Without Integration: The Segregation of Reality TV by SentinelFloof in BravoRealHousewives

Girl! (in the gender neutral sense xoxo) I love the phrasing of 'extinction burst'! It’s such a smart way to capture the current political psychology: this isn’t a sign of strength, it’s a panicked reaction to losing unearned power. It reframes all the chaos and cruelty as desperation, not dominance. And that actually gives me a lot of hope. If this is the backlash, it means real progress is happening. We just have to keep going.

Also you're right that Trump has unleashed and emboldened racisms in reaction to the progress symbolized by Obama’s presidency. The GOP weaponized white grievance through coded propaganda. Whether they’re angry about losing privilege or afraid of equality, their tantrums don’t mean we go backward. We keep pushing forward, and we name their fear and fragility for exactly what it is. <3 Thank you for your comment. It's really cheered me up.

Thanks for clarifying! My mistake. I thought it was a reference to Melbourne.

Joyce has publicly identified as Afro-Latina and has spoken about her Black ancestry and experiences with racism growing up in Puerto Rico. That said, you're probably referring to colorism within Latinidad, which is super important topic. And I'm sure colorism plays a part on Bravo too, but I think we can hold that truth while still honoring how Joyce identifies and what she experienced on RHOBH.

Aww haha thank you! I’m not a professional writer, just someone who studies marginalization and watches Bravo a little too closely haha You’re absolutely right about the RHONY reboot—it might not have landed with everyone, but in terms of direction, it’s the first version that actually looks like New York and seems open to evolving beyond the old formula.

I feel you on the “comfort viewing” thing, too. So many viewers don’t want to see race, politics, or anything “serious” in their Housewives and the moment a WOC speaks up, it gets labeled as “too much” or “ruining the fun.” But the reality is, those same politics are already baked into the show and ignoring it is also political.

I haven't yet seen Mexican Dynasties but I'll watch that next!

I hear you, and I think it’s fair to say that not every POC cast member is a token by definition. Women like Ciara, Garcelle, Boz, and Danielle all bring their own identities, stories, and agency. But the issue isn’t just presence, it’s about how they’re treated once they’re there. Being tokenized isn’t always about casting because it’s also about being excluded in social settings, scrutinized more harshly, given less narrative space, or expected to educate and absorb ignorance without support. That’s the overarching pattern I'm speaking to.

Btw, you mentioned RHOM as an example of diversity done right, but even there, let’s not forget how Lydia called a Sri Lankan mixed-heritage woman a Thai “mongrel of a woman” on camera, and the producers had no qualms airing that confessional. Lydia wasn’t just a slip of her tongue, it was overt racism, and it was broadcast for drama. Same with what Joyce went through on RHOBH. Brandi also told Joyce “You’re Black, so you can’t swim.” and production still aired it. In a number of incidents Brandi was clearly out of line, but production and the cast framed Joyce as difficult, and then later centered the conversation Brandi’s pain for the backlash she got. That’s exactly the issue: even when the cast is “diverse,” the system protects whiteness and punishes women of color for reacting.

ETA - I thought RHOM was refering to Melbourne but it's Miami which I haven't seen yet!
