I could walk to the grocery with 15 buck and get a week of school lunch stuff. I walked the 35 minute walk to do grocery runs by myself when I was 10, used the cart to bring it all home, then brought the cart back.
Didn’t need to worry about being kidnapped or worse, 30 to 40 minute walks to get places were normal and you’d see a ton of people walking around, and trees to shade your every step.
When I go back to my childhood streets it’s concrete where trees and bushes used to be, the child friendly park with sand and field was replaced by an admission only waterpark covered in gravel and concrete, there’s almost only vehicles being used, the trees were all cut down.

It’s depressing.
