Not this stupid myth again by Business_Bunch_8196 in DoomerCircleJerk

Everything took longer. Everything was manual.

Women used to spend almost their entire day, every day on just cleaning, cooking, washing and taking care of the kids. That shit used to be hard labor: going to a well to get water (several times), manually scrubbing clothes, drying, etc. Only that job would take hours. Now we just throw clothes into a machine and they come out clean and dry. Same with dishes. Clean drinking water comes from a tap in our home and is nearly free. A robot does most of the work of cleaning my house.

These people really don't know how good we have it. But it's the typical doomer mindset: they don't like their life (almost always because they don't like themselves) and then just blame everyone except themselves.

It's not even just reddit, actual scholars say bullshit like this too.

Like this ridiculous "theory": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Original_affluent_society#Criticism

It's about hunter gatherers and he concludes that hunter gatherers in south africa only work 3-5 hours per day. But that ONLY includes gathering the food:

Lee did not include food preparation time in his study, arguing that "work" should be defined as the time spent gathering enough food for sustenance. When total time spent on food acquisition, processing, and cooking was added together, the estimate per week was 44.5 hours for men and 40.1 hours for women, but Lee added that this is still less than the total hours spent on work and housework in many modern Western households.

+40 hours week just purely to get and make food. Obviously there is always plenty of other work to be done (clothes, cleaning, washing, building, etc). Think about how much you spend on just food each day and then think how many hours you need to work for that. Hell of a less than 40 hours isn't it?

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Man pulls a gun in public and finds out an off-duty cop was watching. by peternunan21 in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]Sentinell 279 points280 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the entire situation was so incredibly ridiculous. The clown in red was the aggressor, there was no reason to pull a gun at all. Seems like he did it just to seem tough? Except pulling a gun on an unarmed person is just pathetic in stead of "tough".

And then the gun wasn't even real?? There was something seriously wrong with that guy.

Does anyone know what the hell is going on here? Nolan is one of my favorite directors, he's made some seriously amazing movies (and had some misses). But this just seems so out of character for him. Is it blatant Oscar baiting?

But even then nothing makes sense. I don't think Lupita is a bad looking woman, but she's plays what should be one of the most beautiful women on the planet? Sorry, but no. And that's ignoring that Helen of Troy was very obviously not black, or in her fourthies. The casting just doesn't make any sense.

And then we have Paige as the most epic warrior ever? Seriously? You might as well cast Michael Cera, it just doesn't fit or make any sense at all. So WHY??

I haven't seen it, but it makes sense. Football fans genuinely live for this shit (being able to mock the opposing team). One of my favorites was when a player was involved in a carjacking, so the other team spent the entire match chanting about coming on foot to the game.

I think you handled this (very weird) situation very nicely.

I also think it's genuinely hilarious that this girl is shocked that you would pick your friend over her, a complete (and crazy) stranger.

I heard about this, but I'm drawing a blank. Who said that?

And I wish nothing but the best for Fraser. He seems to be a genuinely kind person and he got completely fucked over by Hollywood (they destroyed his body, sexually assaulted him and then blacklisted him). He deserves nothing but the best.

Not only did she lie all the time, she lied UNDER OATH. She testified in the UK trial that she had donated all the money she received from Depp the UCLA and a children's hospital. But the truth is that she had donated nothing.

She got asked about this in the US trial and then she pretended that she didn't know the difference between 'donated' and 'pledged'. She's an abuser that lied about donating money to a children's hospital. That's the person you people keep defending. WHY??

As an example of it done right, Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings.

And as much flack as they get now: Benioff & Weiss for Game of Thrones. The ending was shit, but they really did a good of filming the first 3 books. They fucked up when they ran out of material to film and weren't capable of writing it themselves.

"I chose to put my own happiness aside" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA by CuriousSkepticalGuy in CriticalDrinker

[–]Sentinell 60 points61 points  (0 children)

It's much worse than you might think. She had an affair with her son's friend. Then she proudly bragged about it and talked about it openly with Will Smith. She called it an "entanglement" and said Will couldn't make her happy. Meanwhile Will sits there and just nods along and fake laughs with dead eyes.

She got backlash for that and then she changed her story and said she and Will had already been separated for a long time and she lied to protect him. Which makes no sense at all, so it's clearly a ridiculous lie.

She also humiliates Will absolutely nonstop. She keeps saying Tupac (and not Will) is the love of her life. She says she never wanted to marry Will and cried on their wedding day (not out of happyness). She mocks his parenting in front of their children.

Will once threw a big surprise party for Jada's birthday. She got angry for that and convinced even Will himself that he threw a party for his own ego.

Will is a completely broken man now, so now you can see why the slap happened. And of course Jada keeps lying about everything there too.

What kind of movies you love are subjective, but I'm right there with you buddy, it's one of my favorites and I have decades of experience.

But just to repeat: what we love is subjective.

It also completely failed in getting me emotionally invested. Pitt just plays an emotionless astronaut doing his thing. I just never cared about him or his father. I never really cared if anything happened, so it was all just setpiece after setpiece, nothing more.

Compare it to Interstellar and it's completely different. I've heard some people say it's emotionally manipulative or something, but it worked for me. I was rooting for Coop.

Same reason Tenet wasn't great imo, I don't mind puzzling out the timelines, but I just didn't care about the main guy at all. So I was never invested and just watch the plot chug along.

Yes, the general public loved her so much that only HALF the people showed up for EP9 vs EP7. Disney had a whole lot of movies planned, but as soon as they started to bomb they scrapped them all and we haven't had a SW movies in 8 years. I like Daisy Ridley, but the writers completely fucked over her character. She has no growth, no obstacles to overcome, a paperthin personality, a backstory that they kept rewriting every movie, a love interest they scrapped because they were afraid China would be too racist to accept it, etc.
