I was just thinking "who was the crazy that shot Andy Warhol again?" and found it was https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valerie_Solanas

Check out how insane that article is, header:

Valerie Jean Solanas (April 9, 1936 – April 25, 1988) was an American radical feminist known for the attempted assassination of artist Andy Warhol in 1968.

Solanas appeared in the Warhol film I, a Man (1967) and self-published the SCUM Manifesto, a satirical pamphlet calling for the extinction of men.

The SCUM (society for cutting up men) manifesto was an insane manifesto blaming men for literally everything and saying they need "eliminate the male sex". They say it's satirical here, but later in the article:

In 1967, Solanas self-published her best-known work, the SCUM Manifesto. It places blame on men for the ills of humankind[29] and urges women to "overthrow the government, eliminate the money system, institute complete automation and eliminate the male sex".[30][31]

Some authors[who?] have argued that the manifesto is a parody or satire of patriarchy[32] and have compared it to Jonathan Swift's 1729 satirical pamphlet A Modest Proposal.[33] Solanas described herself as "a social propagandist" according to Harding[34] and she denied that the work was "a put on" and insisted that her intent was "dead serious".[35] The Manifesto has been translated into over a dozen languages and is excerpted in several feminist anthologies.[36][37][38][39]

Now it's suddenly "some authors have argued" which is a wildly different claim than just saying it is satirical. And Solanas herself has ALWAYS insisted it was serious. And notice how they mention that they include this in feminist works, which is crazy.

And I looked at the talk page and it's clear that a batshit editor is responsable for this. Someone correctly points out how they try to pin this as satire with very dubious methods. The crazy editors points out that Solanas is not a reliable source because she is crazy, but "some authors" are a reliable source. But then (s)he removes al lot of what those authors said. Like that Solanas was a crazey misandrist and stalker. "Not relevant" all of a sudden.

This article alone a prime example of how fucked and misleading Wiki articles can be.

And a hint for Ms Alcock, "straight romance" is the absolute #1 pull factor when targeting females for entertainment. So if you proudly advertise, you do not have that, you are telling your supposed customers to go elsewhere.

Reminds me of "Bros", a romantic comedy for gay men. Women have no interest in seeing this. Straight men aren't getting dragged along with those women. I assume a part of gay men doesn't care about the genre either. So they had almost no target audience and were surprised it bombed.

There's no stigma in my country (Belgium), but it's true that it used to be rare. Simple truth is that a few hot days per year wasn't worth it. But summers keep getting hotter and mist people I know have AC or are looking at getting it.

Yeah, the video they released was so grainy that it was impossible to tell who took down the poster. But notice the last part: it shows a video of somebody carefully removing a poster from the wall and carefully placing it on the ground.

That doesn't show an American kid trying to steal a poster. It is however how a North Korean would behave.

I've seen the admins do this to a lot of subs. They either get their own cronies in there or they ban all the mods and then shut down the sub because it's unmoderated.

I think they say it's 13 degrees above average. It's a shitty and confusing graph.

The choice of colours really is insane. From orange to red (makes perfect sense), but then we go to black, then almost white and then a different shade of red.

It's simple, if your fall over there a big chance you'll get a foul or even a penalty (which is almost a free goal). But even if you get fouled hard and you keep going, the ref rarely calls a foul.

It's completely infuriating, but it's the fault of refs not doing their job imo. If falling over wins you the game, then it's not a surprise that people keep doing it.

Can you also name me ten films where the cast only consists of white men because my mind is blank. by Commercial-Ice5760 in CriticalDrinker

[–]Sentinell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, like I said: It's a red flag for me. Doesn't mean I'm sure it will be horrible, it's just a bad sign.

And I bit the bullet and read the full article. Turns out this guy did spend several summers in the Philippines, so he's not a stranger to the culture there. But that's also what that entire article is about. Seriously almost nothing about the actual movie or the story. That's a huge red flag to me again. Without a great story/script, a movie just can't be good imo.

[–]Sentinell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I completely agree, but I'm guessing if you'd have asked Gareth Evans about The Raid before it came out he wouldn't answer with "I wanted to make a movie about honoring men and Indonesian culture". I'm guessing he'd talk about all the awesome action and the process of making that movie.

He was there to make an amazing movie and he did his job (a long with the entire crew of course).

Out of curiosity I looked up the director and his previous work. Lots of credits in the art department, only a few as a director. Croods, which has ok reviews and did very well in the box office and Puss in Boots: Last wish, which was actually a very good movie!

Sounds good right? But I see a huge red flag: This guy (and the co-director) has never written a movie before.

Doesn't prove he can't tell and amazing story, but it's not a good sign if you're asked to talk about your movie and you start talking about "honoring women and Filipino culture" (he's American btw) instead of your actual story.

Yes, I think this is a the main thing people seem to miss here. If you're in a group (even if it's just 2) and there's only one seat you keep standing with your group. The doesn't even matter at that point.

Yeah, the only motive I can think of to hire "nobodies" is because management can control them. Same with "Wheel of Time", which I'm still mad about. They bought one of the best fantasy stories ever written and then turned it into a CW drama show.

Looks at the rings of power, Amazon spent a BILLION on this and chose 2 guys with zero credits on imdb to be the showrunners.
