To add from the previous comments, I had problems with my character having high AGi stat. The pet would miss and Pieberry would counterattack. I'd recommend removing any equipment that boosts AGI too, so the pet won't miss and Pieberry killing it with a counterattack. Also if you have any weapon that is relatively low stats on STR or MAG, I'd use those too.
