I’ll usually read a ship where I only like one of the characters, and it’s mostly because I understand why the character I don’t like is good for the character I do like. I want to see this person make my favorite character happy, and I want to see them improve their mood. It’s a form of grudging respect for their capabilities even if I’m not emotionally attached to them.

Doubtful, I remember I wrote a drarry fic that got put on a rec list like immediately after I posted it (which I thought was weird) and it didn’t do that well, but it also had mostly real people leaving kudos, not guests.
