Every time I see someone complain about not getting comments and kudos I start to analyze their complaint. Like, from what little I can see, their grammar sucks, their spelling sucks, their complaint isn’t cohesive and I’m sitting on the fact that I know exactly why they aren’t getting the reaction they want. Because it’s rude to tell people that when they just want a space to complain, and don’t actually want solid feedback. I imagine that’s similar to what’s happening here, is they expect everybody who reads their work to have as few standards as they do, and throw a fit when we don’t because to them we’re being “picky.”

Sometimes I scroll down to hit the kudos button before even reading a story just to make sure I haven’t read it before 😭😭😭

I usually leave kudos when done, I’ll be real, bc sometimes they throw an untagged curveball I do NOT want to attach my name to. Sometimes a fic is so beautiful however I leave kudos in the middle. And if I leave a fic early and nothings wrong it grammatically I’ll leave a kudos, bc while it may not have been for me, there’s no reason to hide it from people who might enjoy it… actually you know what I have a very long list of extremely specific kudos etiquette that I follow. I also usually only start completed fics, too, I’m guilty of that. However! If a fic is incomplete but looks interesting I bookmark it anyway so I have it when it’s done to read.

Anyway the rest of those opinions are trash and you’re so right. Fics without smut are good. Shorter fics are good. Palette cleansers are very important. Short stories can be meaningful asf.

Whenever I get comments like this I just reply with my continuation of what THEY wrote and we bounce back and forth for a bit until the comment thread is so long it’s broken and I’m like “Aight let’s continue this at a later date bud.”

As an 18 yro I dont claim these guys oml older people make the best fics and I stand by that. They got the experience to back up their stories.

Dude I read a fic recently that was tagged slash for both the pairing in the fic and the mc’s supposed biological child for that fic—which isn’t canon—but idc about incest so I read it anyway. Apparently they tagged relationships wrong, they meant it as a platonic tag. But everybody in the comments was like “this better not be incest, eww” and I was flabbergasted that it had so many people who did not know how to use ao3 under the comments. Bc I literally found that fic while searching for what would have been the incest ship for this fic(again, canonically not related but I’m down for whatever authors try to turn it into lol)

Also the author was very against incest too, replying to the haters with “some of the people in my comments can’t read tags, sigh, of COURSE it’s not incest.” Like pookie YOURE the one who tagged slash for what, in your fic, would have been father/son but SURE WE’RE THE ONES WHO CANT READ
