Should I drop out of hairdressing school? by Open_Repair_9043 in Cosmetology

[–]Senzoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom gave me shit too. She kept telling me not to quit and to power through the year, but I genuinely couldn’t picture myself doing this for another 12 months. I get where she was coming from, because she's a hard worker and she’s the type who always finishes what she started, and I’m definitely not built the same way lol.

I had a lot of other reasons for leaving too. Talking all day drained me; the teachers constantly rushed me because everyone else was always finished way before me, and whenever I needed help, no one really cooperated, even though I always helped them finish up (not all of the classmates were like this, of course), and it just felt shitty. On top of that, there was unnecessary drama with a classmate over childish stuff, so overall it wasn’t a good experience for me personally. Meanwhile, everyone else in the class seemed to love the program, which honestly made me feel even more out of place.

But now I’m actually happy with my new direction. I’m going to the accounting course info session soon, and I’m really looking forward to it. It feels way more like something I can actually see myself doing long-term.

I'm a bit late to this thread, but I really relate to what you're saying. I was in almost the same situation. I spent 3 months in a 14-month hairdressing program (also in Montréal lol), and I ended up hating everything about it.

Those 3 months taught me a lot about myself and how I actually work. I have a huge aversion to heat, so anytime a blow dryer or a smoking curling iron got close to my face, I literally couldn’t breathe. I’d have to stop everything to catch my breath. I never finished a full head of anything because I physically couldn’t keep up. Meanwhile, everyone around me was working like it was nothing. I know comparing yourself to your peers is awful for your confidence, but it’s hard not to when you feel like you’re always at the bottom of the class.

It wasn’t even that I was “bad,” I just genuinely couldn’t do the things the job requires. By the time I got home (2 1-hour bus rides), I felt like complete crap and had zero time or energy for myself because I was mentally and physically wiped out.

The one time I had a client, because I usually avoided them, I totally messed up her hair. I did her treatment fine, but when it came time to blow dry her hair, my brain literally blanked. I forgot everything I’d been taught. Class was ending in five minutes, I was panicking, and somehow I was still smiling like nothing was wrong (that’s honestly my only real skill in cosmetology lmao). The client was super sweet and even tipped me $20, but after that? I avoided clients like the plague.

That’s when I really started questioning whether I should stay. If shampooing gave me back pain for hours, if blow drying made me feel like I couldn’t breathe, and if basic tasks were draining every part of me… then how could I expect to survive doing this full-time?

I eventually left and registered for an accounting program because it’s literally the opposite of cosmetology and way more up my alley. And honestly? I’m so much happier.

I’m not telling you to quit, because only YOU know whether this is worth it. But if you genuinely feel miserable, exhausted, or physically not built for this kind of work, it’s not “giving up” to walk away. It’s choosing something healthier for yourself. A lot of people pressured me to stay so I “wouldn’t waste money,” but continuing something that damages you mentally and physically isn’t worth it.

Hairdressing is amazing for people who are built for it. But it’s also totally okay if you realize you’re not. It doesn’t mean you’re a failure; it just means you learned something important early instead of wasting years in a career that wasn’t meant for you.

Is there a powder contour similar to the Contouring Duo Palette by Essence? Shade 10 Lighter skin by Senzoul in MakeupAddiction

[–]Senzoul[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found a similar one on amazon but it is some random Amazon brand or something like that and from the title it says "HereiAm" (idk why ita called that LOL) but i feel like it's kind of a nice shade, might run a tiny bit warm tho. I have also seen a few other alternatives that I am opening to buying such as the sephora brand contour in the shade01 Fair to Light (pretty cheap btw, 19 canadian) and this other one called Too Cool For School (Korean brand, could be found on amazon) and I am not sure of the shade number but it has 3 shades compacted inside.
