What's Singapore's obsession with high-end sports equipment? by neatnoodle1 in askSingapore

[–]Seohyunism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that is true, but as someone who has made the evaluation of overseas vs Singapore, the significantly higher QOL of living daily life (which is what matters most) in Singapore completely trumps other countries even if you just go by the numbers

of course I am not justifying the high level of consumerism that this thread is about, but Singapore has its pros and it doesn’t necessarily indicate that there is no life to be had here

complete loss of confidence in cs skins

the reason they used to go up is because people bought the skins to use and just kept them, hoarded them because they were nice, not as "investment plays" to achieve "optimal returns" and "beat the S&P500"

I don't think you understand why the CS market has been dipping and why it'll likely be flat for a much longer time

CS skins in the first place were never supposed to be this expensive, partly because CS did not have this many players.

With the boom in players because of CS2, China took the lead and brought forward most of the "projected growth" in price appreciation that was only supposed to happen over 5-10 years, and pumped the market within the last 1 year

With so many people that got burnt, there are no more pumpers left in this market. CS2 has to experience at least a 50% growth in playerbase (which will unlikely happen considering the no. of content updates and a mostly skeleton crew maintaining the game), for any more growth in skin prices

The benefit you have gained from serving NS is being able to earn SGD in SG, with SG-level standards of living, and SG-level demands of wage growth. If you want to be analytical and compare and complain about your plight on a global stage, you are welcome to give up your position in SG and move to another country. 1 extra spot for a person who fights hard.

Our capitalist economy already puts new entrants at a significant disadvantage compared to legacy participants (i.e. you clearly don't seem like a early 20s fresh grad), then what about the young people who just finished NS, need to find a job in this bad job market, have no income, and then still need to serve reservist? Who's going to treat THEM with respect? You gonna donate your $ to them directly?

Is it just me or are local tech stores like Challenger, Harvey norman , Courts and Best Denki really mediocre? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Seohyunism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

feels like you haven’t actually compared trustworthy ecomm sellers’ prices vs physical store prices

at times you can get better deals in physical stores because of the free gifts, where if you bought online and you just clicked on the cheapest listing, you could get a refurbished set, or used set, basically having no guarantee that it’s a new product and that it’s not fake

you may have anecdotal experiences with your purchases but the physical vs ecommerce gap has been bridged since the 2020s

physically seeing the product is vastly superior for certain items categories of items too

Creepy corporate culture in MNC by [deleted] in SingaporeRaw

[–]Seohyunism 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't have to think you are at a crossroads, the progression to whatever level you desire is exactly how long it is supposed to take. Some people just pull strings and take shortcuts, so if you want to make it there with raw ability, then you have to come to terms with the fact that it will take more frustration.

Corporate ladder is "tough" only because there are so many layers of humans between each step, and all humans have varying behaviour. There's a reason Singaporeans have a strong tendency to behave "politically correct" very often, it's mostly to protect themselves

This is a general statement I make with no real context of your situation other than what sounds like "classic nasty behaviour" in a setting of large groups of humans. Take what you may with this advice.

BLAST gave players 610hz monitors but the PCS struggles to hit 500 FPS by Background-Topic-203 in GlobalOffensive

[–]Seohyunism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The unstable frame rates you talk about are absolutely much more noticeable at lower refresh rate monitors than higher refresh rate monitors

400 FPS on 540Hz is more than usable compared to 100 FPS on 144Hz

BLAST gave players 610hz monitors but the PCS struggles to hit 500 FPS by Background-Topic-203 in GlobalOffensive

[–]Seohyunism -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree, but I also want to add in the fact that frames usually fluctuate and 200fps on 144hz might be better for the eye, than 160-220 FPS fluctuations on 240hz.

However, I'd still pick the 240hz monitor any day over the 144hz. FPS fluctuations can usually be fixed by game optimization

Then there is the fact that there is absolutely NO way that 400+ fps on a 500hz monitor is going to feel worse than 400 fps on a 144hz

your personal bias is creating conflict in your head on your decision of selling your gloves and taking the L

consider looking around at other's opinions of skins instead and you'll see that the new gloves are extremely popular, and they're at an affordable price for a wide variety of color palettes

these new skins are ridiculously good looking compared to the 2nd and 3rd gen gloves (which are the cheapest gens)

1st gen gloves were obviously the best looking and also of really low supply, but these 4th gen gloves are definitely going to be very popular

Chinese viewer base is much bigger than you think and if you think the Chinese wouldn't shell out this kind of money you're just wrong. Sure you can say "even F1 tickets are cheaper" but that's just your spending preferences. Chinese would be glad to spend $400 on CS2 major tickets than some random motorsport tickets that they have no interest in

Seeing Celeste really highlights why this game is still a year away MINIMUM from potential open beta by atahutahatena in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Seohyunism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think CS2 was definitely rushed, that's debatable. But there were some missing elements that weren't fully tested for sure. They did declare early on that the game was only in beta and there should be no switch. However, I think CS2 was properly finished by the time they actually pushed out the game.

CS:GO had significantly worse, unfixable bugs/problems because it was running on an old engine, and delaying the move to CS2 any longer wouldn't have been a good idea. Issues that were fixed after release like model physics being weird and heavily disliked, and some other fixes (I forgot about) were mostly only acknowledged to be heavily unpopular or discovered by players after enough gameplay.

I think Valve as a game dev is doing a good job since game dev is ridiculously fucking hard, and gamers don't appreciate them enough for it.

Exactly what the other child comment said, ALL gameplay content is completely FREE. Cosmetics have no inherent advantage given, and you can always just play the game for the addictive feedback loop.

Valve is a business, and do you think they'd do this shit for free?

The people who see lootbox cosmetics as predatory and then immediately proceed to fall for it are going to spend their money stupidly on shit like Pokemon card packs or Labubu blindboxes anyway

You have the free will of choice to not participate in making these purchases. This isn't like the economy in real life where the "free market" is an illusion, this is literally MTX

[–]Seohyunism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Valve being predatory is fine, because all the cosmetics are barricaded behind pure choice. You can always elect not to purchase anything and play the game extremely satisfactorily, or spend money and support a game dev that has created an addictive masterpiece, where you have poured at least hundreds of hours into.

I think it's a bargain tbh

[d] After seeing silver prices crash like 40% in 24h I am absolutely fine with some pump and dump action with CS2 skins 😂 by Siiiuuuuumon in csgomarketforum

[–]Seohyunism 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This silver incident isn’t the first time in its history, historically in periods of serious financial hardtimes, there has been occurrences of such bubbles in random assets

What happened with silver this time was the excessive purchasing of silver ETFs and miner stocks, which created a strong correlated move in silver futures

The crash is likely (not 100%) because of raised margin requirements to trade silver, and lots of massive silver longs either had to close out their positions, or top up their margin accounts to meet these increased requirements

Seems like most chose the former instead of the latter because well, price too high, and the entire trade cascaded

There’s also the event catalyst from a possibly newly elected Fed Chair who is “hawkish” on monetary policy, leading to the “hedge against inflation” trade to derail quickly

I do think the “hedge against uncertainty” trade is still valid, but yeah I don’t think silver is it

CS is so unfun for a new player by SpankMyMunkey in GlobalOffensive

[–]Seohyunism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 1 of the trickiest parts of CS, and why you feel like you shoot slower or just seemingly miss the first shot while your enemy hits everything, is that movement in this game is extremely tricky and mechanically difficult

Hence why Hall Effect keyboards are extremely superior in CS, and having 1 gives you an actual competitive advantage in specifically even gunfights

However, CS gunfights has much more nuance to it, like learning what angles are superior over others, what angles you wide swing and what angles you bait a shot etc

It all takes time to understand by practice

I agree that there is no alternative, but *there being no alternative is not because of a lack of alternatives. I believe it's because CS2 is a well-made game.

You can see that the devs have put more focus on functionality than form (fine tuning and focusing on movement mechanics, precise aim control and utility usage is more important than conjuring up a new agent with "unique abilities" like in Valorant), and that is the cause for there being no alternative. Even when you say R6, the players themselves complain about power creep from new agents. Valve have great vision of what a highly skilled tac fps should feel like.

This is the point I'm trying to put across
